Sam Ferguson of Galo Combatives is a seasoned police officer with nearly a decade of service in Lexington, KY, and a skilled combat sports athlete specializing in grappling and striking. Sam is the creator of Two Point Control: Arm Tie Techniques for Edged Weapons Defense, a course he teaches at the Combatives Summit. This method focuses on using arm tie techniques to neutralize attackers wielding edged weapons, emphasizing safety and control in close-quarters encounters.

A lifelong grappler, Sam began wrestling at age 8 and now coaches high school wrestling. He also holds a blue belt in judo and a 1st-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), with multiple No Gi Worlds medals at the purple, brown, and black belt levels. As a third-shift patrol officer, Sam’s focus on combatives and arrest tactics earned him a black belt in combatives and opportunities to train under renowned experts like Paul Sharpe, Larry Lindeman, Craig Douglas, and Aaron Janetti.

Sam’s practical, real-world approach to edged weapons defense has made him a sought-after instructor in law enforcement and self-defense circles. His passion for teaching ensures students are equipped with effective strategies for high-stakes encounters.

In 2022, Michaela discovered a passion for firearms training—a pursuit that not only gave her a means of self-protection but also reignited her competitive spirit honed during her figure skating days. Through her dedication and practice, she attended her first Adaptive Defensive Shooting Summit (ADSS), achieving incredible personal milestones, including finishing as High Lady and embracing the camaraderie of a community of adaptive athletes. Michaela trains diligently, focusing on both competitive shooting and defensive skills, viewing each day as an opportunity to grow and improve.

Beyond shooting, Michaela finds joy in her service dog, Tucker, and hopes to work towards more American Kennel Club titles with him. She also dabbles in other personal protection skills and adaptive sports, though her passion lies with firearms. With a vision of independence and inclusivity, Michaela is determined to continue breaking barriers and showing others what’s possible when resilience, support, and adaptive tools come together.
