Hello, and welcome to the Ran By Nature Podcast - I am your host, Bryna - founder of Ran By Nature - sustainable and inclusive activewear powered by activism. And Associate Professor in Exercise Science. This is the sustainable movement activism podcast. That is smashing stereotypes and stigma in the sports industry. And tackling taboo's around exercise and movement.
Today I am joined by Kelly Newton, founder of Nixi body. Kelly founded NIXI Body in 2019 after having a hysterectomy and starting menopause which then exacerbated my stress and urge incontinence. As someone who has always been active, she didn’t feel comfortable wearing disposable pads. They are bulky and uncomfortable and are full of chemicals. Also, having four teenage daughters all having periods, she was really conscious about how much waste they were producing as a family.
After searching online to see if there were any reusables - she couldn’t find anything that she wanted to wear. So she designed the NIXI knickers to be absorbent and very discreet. The gusset has been designed to sit underneath the bottom rather than across it and they have a seamless, scalloped edging for no VPL. Kelly wants people to feel comfortable when they are working out and not have to worry about period or bladder leaks, and to keep people moving through menstruation, motherhood, and menopause.
