  • From Type 2 Diabetes Diagnosis to Fitness Enthusiast

    Michael Edwards received a devastating diagnosis of type 2 Diabetes and initially was in disbelief as he had always been active earlier in life and playing basketball and other sports in school but as family life and work took over raising 3 children and moving to a new location. Michael did not realize how sedentary his life had become and what commuting to work 1.5 hours each way picking up breakfast at the nearest fast-food place on the way and business lunches out most days with clients. the real toll this took on his health and body over time. Being faced with this realization following his diagnosis, Michael went from denial to acceptance, research, and resolve to change his outcome.

    After numerous fad diets and following all kinds of plans for weight loss. Michael eventually got it right after trial and research and determination to get his health back and age strong and in better health. Michael took his A1C from a high of 12. something to under 5 which is in the normal range.

    Volunteering with his church at nursing homes and senior centers. and witnessing many of the people he ministered to probably not a whole lot older than himself, in wheelchairs with loss of mobility and all kinds of ailments. Michael became starkly aware that he did not want to age this way.

    Today Michael is a fitness coach and is an avid walker and an advocate of strength training for people his age and older who are of the mindset they want to be stronger and healthier in their golden years.

  • Adopted Lifestyle And Behavior Change For Health

    Lincoln Kokaram, was born to East Indian parents. His great-grandparents came to this country as indentured servants from east India. Lincoln is from the Caribbean Island of Trinidad and Tobago!

    Diagnosed with Type II diabetes in 1999 in his fifties, and growing up in a remote village on the island. Lincoln had not been exposed to traditional illness per se. and did not know much about diabetes, what the symptoms were, and how to manage it.

    A lot of self-education and research led Lincoln on a healthy lifestyle and wellness journey as learned more he was resigned to not being a burden on his family in his golden years.

    Therefore, determined to not only get well but also to get physically fit and stronger to manage his diabetes but also as a way to lengthen his days and well-being. That said, Lincoln admits it is a challenge to be diligent as he has had to face additional pressures to be healthy as his wife is a great cook and owns a restaurant as well as he is in his seventies. Strict adherence with some latitude is what he practices.

    Lincoln has quite an impressive list of accomplishments: he is a passionate speaker and teacher and was born into a family of educators. In fact, he delivered his first adult training seminar at 23 years old and has gone on to conduct numerous workshops, seminars, and speaking engagements over the years as he strives to empower others. Lincoln, has a degree in education and is a certified coach. He has trained some prestigious companies such as Wells Fargo, Auto trader.com, Mutual life insurance, World Airways, Delta Airlines, and The Strickland Debrow law firm just to name a mere few. He has received several Jaycees awards and held some notable titles of President, Vice President, and Executive Vice President.

  • Optimal Gut Health and An Unexpected Diabetes Diagnosis!

    Another, truly inspiring story and journey 'of 'Illness to Wellness'.  realizing that even though she had always been thin and a dancer she was still sick!. The journey was one of discovery and education and coming to the conclusion that optimal proper gut health drove everything in one's body.

    In spite of the new adopted lifestyle for years after that and creating a successful coaching and wellness program. Nothing, could prepare them for her sons eventual diagnosis. No one in the family, including Sue could begin to understand what was going on with her son Cole.

    Cole a son, a brother and a fairly healthy athlete, was losing weight, tired all the time and would often fall asleep at the dinner table, eyesight and glasses did not correct his eye issues be began to complain about. Many doctor visits and numerous tests later. Unfortunately, it took almost losing Cole to make them sit up and take notice a finally take Cole to the hospital he was not looking so good or feeling so good. Even with working out going to practice several times a week for his games. In this case something wasn't quite adding up. 

    Surely Sue who was a wellness coach, a dancer and avid workout guru and an expert in all things wellness; especially, given her education in nutrition, 20 years of experience, her life as a dancer, kicking her own bad sugar and junk food habits. Sue would advocate healthy meals at home too. Given all of that Sue could still could not get a handle on what was happening to her son!

    No one in the family, including Sue could begin to understand what was going on with her son Cole. Why as a fairly healthy eater, an athlete who frequented the gym,  attended practice sessions for his sports and games weekly, was fatigued and consistently losing weight.   Join the conversation to find out what happened.❗️

  • My Way Of Eating Guru, Luisa Morrone Talks Keto Low Carb Eating To Manage Diabetes

    Luisa  launched her online program “MWOE:  My Way of Eating” in January 2021.  She helps type 2 diabetics reverse this silent killer disease, get off medication and lose weight by teaching them that the best way to do this is to embrace the KETO/Low Carb lifestyle.  Luisa has grown her social media following organically to over 10,000 followers and has mastered the ins and outs of being an online type 2 diabetes warrior not just in Canada but around the globe.

    Her vision is a world without type 2 diabetes. She believes this disease can be reversed in most cases by switching to the MWOE method!

    Luisa Morrone is a Type 2 Diabetes Warrior. Both her late father and father-in-law were insulin dependent type 2 diabetics who both ended up on a cocktail of medications and on dialysis at end of life. Her husband Vince is also a type 2 diabetic on oral medications.

    For years Luisa was warned by her doctor that she was pre-diabetic, but she ignored the warnings.  Although she was helping both her father and father in-law to eat right and manage their blood glucose levels, she didn't think she would end up a diabetic, even after seeing the ravages of unchecked type 2 diabetes, 

    8 years ago, her doctor confirmed that she was now diabetic and promptly placed her on medication.  At the time, Luisa weighed 315 lbs/143 kg and used a cane to walk. Due to her obesity, Luisa did not qualify for hip replacement surgery that she needed.

    However, after discovering the KETO/LCHF (Low Carb High Fat) WOE (Way of Eating), she has lost 145 lbs/66 kg, has reversed type 2 diabetes and is no longer on medication. Eventually, she had that hip replacement surgery and threw away her cane!

    Luisa was instrumental in helping her husband Vince, who unfortunately was on his way to becoming a kidney dialysis patient as his kidney had begun to fail. Her husband Vince was taking a large number of medications for diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and more pills to treat complications from diabetes. However, with Luisa's help and working along with his kidney specialist and General Practitioner, Vince has lost 77 lbs/35 kg, regenerated his kidney and, drastically reduced the number of pills he was taking from 18 to 6.

  • Scott Applebaum Reveals how to expand health and life spans using elements of body composition not limited to food, nutrition, and resistance training.

    Scott Appelbaum started his obsession with bodybuilding at 13 years old. Scott had pictures of body builders all over his room and what he really wanted was to have a body like the pictures on his wall. However, he asked himself if that was even possible because these were special people, maybe even privileged that were gifted with these bodies. Because Scott was a typical skinny kid at 13, In high school he was only 5” 5’ and weighed 100lbs, but that’s where it started to change for him. Scott tried out for the Varsity wrestling team starting in the light-weight division this is where the three D’s term associated with him came from DEDICATION DISCIPLINE, and DESIRE. In the off season he would attend wrestling camp. The brother of a teammate had a gym. This brother happened to be a bodybuilder. Scott would practice in that basement every day! wrestling and bodybuilding became his whole life!

    Scott went on to compete on local and national stages and began winning body-building competitions! ultimately the decision was made to take the bodybuilding route.

    Scott is truly versed in Nutrition Analysis, and he’s travelled for several years teaching the science of altering body composition. Teaching APEX certifications and NASM preparatory classes

    This episode's focus is from the health and wellness side of things, Scott talks about what it takes for the body to be at peak condition, healthy and little or no medical challenges. Particular interest to the diabetic audience as many search for ways to be healthier, eat better whole foods, choose a sport, exercise or movement program that will help lower blood-sugar levels and control their A1C readings, and this may be just another way to discipline the body to do just that!
