  • 125. Sick and Tired? Simple Hacks to Enhance Sleep and Boost Energy.
    2025/07/10
I prefer Simplicity. However, when I come across a recipe or hear about a health tip that seems straightforward, I often wonder if it will actually work. That's why today's podcast impacted me. Dr. Stephen Hussey, author of Understanding the Heart, focuses on providing simple tips to improve health. He had a heart attack at the age of 34 while he was writing his book about heart health. As you can imagine, that certainly got his attention! We talked about the ways he's changed his life today after that heart attack. What did we discuss? One is the impact of unnatural lighting on our health. Staying indoors, under fluorescent lights, with limited activity, and consuming processed foods all significantly contribute to poor health. We also had a great discussion about the circadian rhythm. When you're sleeping, your body conducts surveillance and eliminates and cleans up all the damaged cells. If you're not sleeping well, it's almost impossible to be well. ______ Parafy worm kit You're not alone if you've ever wondered what’s lurking in your body! • 124. Top Tips I Loved from June!
    2025/07/03
I had some HUGE takeaways in June. The good news? Both of these tips are easy to implement. The two areas where I gained the most insights were: Supporting someone going through a tough time. The peace that I feel when I continue to walk in forgiveness. How do you support someone who is going through a difficult time? Ask two simple questions: How are you doing right now? How are you doing with that news you heard today? Try to keep it simple and let them know that you can do specific things for them. So instead of saying, "Call me if you need me," say instead, "Can I drive you to your appointment on Thursday?" Walking in forgiveness. Doesn't it seem like almost every day, you can get offended and angry? One of my podcast guests told me how she moved through forgiveness after her daughter was diagnosed with an illness. She told me she'd go outside to the woods and scream. I thought that seemed like a good idea, but going out to the woods and screaming didn't resonate with me. What resonated with me was going to an exercise class and lifting weights. The loud environment allowed me to forgive someone who hurt me without worrying about being heard. I would say, "I forgive [name] and release you to the Holy Spirit." I realized that making my forgiveness more physical didn't mean I went after someone and smacked them upside the head (as fun as that sounds! ). Instead, the movement helped release stress from my body. By the end of one of my "forgiveness" workouts, I felt lighter and calmer. ______ Body Deli Why I love the Phoenix Lift Oil from Body Deli: Botanical Powerhouses for Deep Nourishment In addition to its scientifically advanced components, Phoenix Lift Face & Neck Oil features a curated blend of nutrient-dense, natural oils: Sea Buckthorn Oil: Rich in omega fatty acids and antioxidants, it promotes skin regeneration and combats free radical damage. I first heard about it from Dr. Mark Hyman, and even though it was a bit of a splurge compared to what I usually spend, I'm so glad I invested. Every time I change the filter and see all the gunk it collects, I smile, knowing it's doing a great job keeping my air clean! • 123. Is This the Reason I Got Cancer?
    2025/06/26
I love talking! Ask any of my elementary school teachers, and they will all tell you, "Debbie spends too much time talking and not enough time studying." That's why I was thrilled when the Functional Moms Podcast reached out to interview me on their show. I love an opportunity to talk about why I think I got cancer and what changes I've made in my daily life to lower my risk of all types of illness. I will also tell you that change can be OVERWHELMING. That's why I started with small changes to develop new habits. Adding more fiber to my daily routine is one of my favorite new ways to improve my health. I often add chia seeds to my cottage cheese or on top of a salad, and I always have washed apples in my fridge and handbag. Another BIG CHANGE that I made after cancer was to sit down and ENJOY MY FOOD. I've spent most of my life rushing through meals (and many other things), and what I've learned is that eating and truly staying focused on the meal (no screens!) allows my body to digest it properly. When your digestion is strong, your body absorbs and assimilates more nutrients from the food! ______ Vitali Stin Care Have you heard about copper peptides? I hadn't either until I listened to today's guest talk about them on her podcast. She interviewed the founder of Vitali Regenerative Skin Care, Debbi Barber. I was so intrigued with their discussion about copper peptides and how they can soften scars, regenerate skin, and even help crepey skin look better. It's not often that I stop what I'm doing, read research, and order the products, but that's precisely what I did! And then I emailed Vitali Skin Care and asked for a coupon for my community. In hindsight, I should have asked for the coupon for my order, but nonetheless, you get 20% off your order! I'm trying body creme and skin serum. I will keep you posted on my results! https://www.vitaliskincare.com/discount/cancerwarrior?ref=cbkmpsij ______ Martinelli Apple Cider Here's the link to my favorite non-alcohol cocktail: https://www.martinellis.com/recipes/martinellis-mule/ ______ Connect with Functional Moms Instagram: https://instagram.com/functionalmomspodcast Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/functionalmomspodcast X: https://x.com/functionalmoms ______ Connect with Deborah Deborah on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/whydidigetcancer/ Deborah on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DebsHealthCoachKitchen Deborah on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ydidigetcancer Deborah on Pinterest: https://in.pinterest.com/whydidigetcancer/ Join Deb's weekly newsletter! -https://whydidigetcancer.us14.list-manage.com/subscribeu=1c37affeccf004c8957941069&id=a8572db3c2 Learn more about your ad choices. • 122. Own Your Bubble. Learning how to protect your peace.
    2025/06/19
But At Least You Got A Free Boob Job. Are you surprised that people said this to me during my cancer journey? I was so surprised and, quite honestly, saddened. My first reaction was, 'We can't be friends anymore,' but what about the family members who said that to me?! I had to learn to have GRACE for people. People say dumb things in an attempt to make you laugh or because of their anxiety. Grace is challenging, but it also helps you manage your expectations of others, which can lead to deeper, more meaningful relationships. I was moved by today's episode with Michelle Patidar, nutrition and recovery coach and cancer survivor. She lost half her body weight and all her hair during chemo and radiation. She said she was a shell of her former self, and yet, she ended up trying to make her loved ones "feel better during HER journey" by encouraging them. That's a burden none of us were meant to bear. We also discussed our daily habits. Michelle believes that cancer prevention or recovery is a daily choice made BY YOU. We need to ask ourselves throughout the day, how does this habit serve me? Bonus Tip: Consider how you feel about spending time with the people in your life. After spending time with them, do they make you feel encouraged or discouraged? ______ Body Deli Why I love the Phoenix Lift Oil from Body Deli: Botanical Powerhouses for Deep Nourishment In addition to its scientifically advanced components, Phoenix Lift Face & Neck Oil features a curated blend of nutrient-dense, natural oils: Sea Buckthorn Oil: Rich in omega fatty acids and antioxidants, it promotes skin regeneration and combats free radical damage. • 121. If your mom had breast cancer, does that mean you will too? (Re-release)
    2025/06/12
Today's guest is discussing genetic testing, specifically because she has tested positive for a strong breast cancer gene. She believes this is the same gene that caused her mother to have breast cancer. I've often wondered, if a close relative has had cancer, does that increase my chances of developing it as well? What steps can be taken to prevent cancer if there is a significant family history of it? How "close" does a relative need to be for their cancer diagnosis to raise their own risk? Krista answered all these questions and so many more. This is a tricky topic, and I'll be honest, it's a little scary when you think about getting tested to see if you have a higher likelihood of cancer. However, Krista is very clear that knowledge is power, and it's better to understand the risks associated with your genetics so you can take action to mitigate them. A couple of our takeaways: We had an enlightening conversation about the relationship between stress and cancer. We both know that stress plays a huge role in cancer. We both agree that organic produce is the best choice, though we recognize that it can be expensive. We discussed some creative strategies for incorporating 8 to 10 servings of organic produce into our daily diets without overspending. ______ Bon Charge Do you want to know one of my wellness secrets? • 120. Here are my favorite highlights from May!
    2025/06/05
I can tell you that aging is hard. I don't like feeling little aches and pains during my day! And my sleep can be so challenging. This is why I'm highlighting my takeaways with my guest, Zora of Hack My Age. Zora suggested using red light therapy to help reduce inflammation and accelerate healing. I'm a huge fan of using red light therapy. I've used it throughout my cancer journey. I find that it has helped me with wound healing and muscle recovery. Red light therapy uses red and near-infrared light wavelengths to stimulate cellular function. This stimulation boosts adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production, thereby enhancing cellular processes such as healing, repair, and reducing inflammation. I also use a sauna blanket to help with detoxing the JUNK out of my system, and the sauna I use is also a source of infrared light. Home saunas can be very pricey and BIG! I have a small home, so having a sauna blanket is ideal for me. It's like a sleeping bag sauna: I lie on my bed, turn it on, and sweat it out. Afterward, I wipe it down and store it in the closet—so easy! ______ Vitali Regenerative Skin Care Have you heard about copper peptides? I hadn't either until I listened to today's guest talk about them on her podcast. She interviewed the founder of Vitali Regenerative Skin Care, Debbi Barber. • 119. Is It Ever Too Late?
    2025/05/29
This was my big question for today's guest, Zora Benhamou, the Queen of Mid-Life Hacks. What did I mean? Is it ever too late to eat healthy, start an exercise routine, or learn to meditate? Zora's answer surprised me, she said It's Never Too Late! However, there's no time like the present to get started. The longer you wait, the fewer results you may see. She made some excellent suggestions on how to get started, Exercise is a key component. But, how much is enough, and is walking the best place to start? Walking is a good place for most of us to start, HOWEVER, adding more muscle to your body can truly change how your body ages. Here's how adding in some weight training can help: Improved Cardiovascular Health: Increased muscle mass is linked to better heart health. Increased Energy and Metabolism: Muscles burn more calories than fat, boosting metabolism and energy levels. Improved Cognitive Function: Muscle health is associated with better cognitive function, and strength training may enhance it. Increased Longevity: Greater muscular strength is linked to increased longevity. And this is just a partial list of all the benefits of adding strength work. Zora had more suggestions for hacking your age. One of my favorites was making my skin look tighter and less crepey. Midlife girls, you know exactly what I'm talking about! She recommended trying the Vitali products, which I ordered immediately. Fingers crossed. I'm trying the body creme and skin serum. I will keep you posted on my results! https://www.vitaliskincare.com/discount/cancerwarrior?ref=cbkmpsij ______ Vitali Regenerative Skin Care Have you heard about copper peptides? • 118. Hack Your Age?
    2025/05/22
Let's start with, What the Heck is a Hack? A hack is a small change or a shortcut designed to improve your life. Today's guest, Zora Benhamou, is the Queen of Midlife Health Hacks. She's also someone who, despite living a very active life, ended up with osteoarthritis. She tried to avoid surgery for as long as possible. How was she able to do that? She used a few health hacks to get as much "life" out of her hips as possible. She tried PRP, physical therapy, and an anti-inflammatory diet. On the podcast, she discusses a few more hacks that you've got to hear about! Let's also talk about scars. Zora ended up with two hip replacements, and she tried a few different hacks to lessen her scarring. She used a copper peptide cream on one scar and a different product on the other. The copper peptide scar improved so much that she started using it on both wounds, and she's thrilled with the results! I just bought this copper peptide cream, Zora suggested using the link below (20% off!) https://www.vitaliskincare.com/discount/cancerwarrior?ref=cbkmpsij ____ Water Filtration: Boroux I've been looking for a water filter for two years. Okay, maybe I'm a little picky...but my research paid off. I've chosen the Boroux Filter system and am really happy with it. Are you curious about my criteria? Here's what I was looking for in a filter: Removal of heavy metals. The Boroux removes 99.36% of heavy metals. Pharmaceuticals are removed. Because people don't dispose of drugs properly, the drugs get into our water system. The Boroux removes 99.5% of pharmaceutical contaminants. Glyphosate removal (glyphosate is the active ingredient in Roundup and is a known carcinogen). A year ago, I was tested for glyphosate and was in the 95th percentile. I was shocked! Since I was already eating mainly organic, my doctor suggested getting a water filter. I had a challenging time finding one that would filter this chemical, and this was one of my main drivers for purchasing this filter. Boroux has a special offer for my community. Click the link below to research and purchase. https://boroux.sjv.io/7aM1a3 ____ Air Dr. I've been using the Air Doctor air purifier for almost a year and absolutely love it!
