  • Beating burnout and finding balance with Melo Calarco

    Have you ever found yourself overwhelmed, exhausted and frantically trying to juggle the demands of work and life, only to feel like you're on the brink of burnout? You're not alone.

    The struggle to maintain balance while achieving our goals is more prevalent than ever. But don't despair, because I'm here to share insights from an incredible conversation I had with Melo Calarco - a fellow author (his book Beating Burnout, Finding Balance is a must-read) and expert dedicated to helping people thrive without burning out.

    Melo is a remarkable individual whose mission is to help people perform at their best without sacrificing their mental health and wellbeing. Melo has extensive experience working in psychiatric clinics and has since transferred that knowledge into the corporate world, aiding entrepreneurs, CEOs and athletes in maintaining their drive without losing themselves along the way.

    We chat about understanding the burnout crisis and how to recognise it in ourselves before it’s too late. Melo also outlines three essential pillars for maintaining balance and beating burnout:

    1. Developing Self-Awareness: A foundational step in combating burnout is understanding your behaviours, emotions and physical responses.

    2. Mastering Self-Regulation: The ability to manage your responses to stress and maintain control over your actions. It’s about learning to pause and choose your responses deliberately rather than reacting impulsively.

    3. Consistency in Self-Care: A commitment to daily practices that promote long-term health and wellness. Here, Melo advises that self-care routines should be personalised and adaptable to fit individual needs and lifestyles.

  • Decision Fatigue is Killing Your Business—Here’s How to Fix It

    We’ve all been there. Staring blankly at the screen, your brain flat out refusing to function, keeping you stuck in an endless battle of indecision.

    Should you launch your new offer now or hold off?

    Raise your prices or stay put?

    Post this update on LinkedIn?

    Suddenly, you're paralysed. Scrolling aimlessly, your momentum for doing anything productive is gone.

    Decision fatigue is one of the sneakiest productivity killers in business. It drains our energy, feeds our overthinking, and stalls our progress.

    So how do we get out of this overthinking decision fatigue loop?

    I believe the answer is to treat every choice like an experiment. This is exactly what I do in my business and teach my clients to do as well and believe me, it’s a game changer.

    So, how do we apply this in our businesses? Here are the four steps I recommend:

    1. Take the Pressure Off

    Instead of “What if I get this wrong?” ask yourself, “What if I just test it and see what happens?” Not every decision is permanent. Think of each one as a prototype, not necessarily the final product.

    2. Set a Timeline

    Give yourself a deadline. Whether it’s trialing a new pricing model for 30 days or testing a marketing strategy for a quarter, set a timeframe and stick to it.

    3. Measure What Matters

    Define what success looks like before you start. For example, if you’re testing a lead generation strategy, is success about increasing lead numbers, improving lead quality, or reducing stress in the process?

    4. Detach from the Outcome

    Not every experiment will work and that's perfectly fine. The goal is to learn and move forward. Embrace the mantra that it’s not about perfection but continuous learning and adaptation.


    Embrace Experimentation In Your Business

    Here's a challenge for you: Identify one decision you’ve been overthinking and turn it into an experiment. Set a deadline, define success, and give it a go, regardless of what the outcome might be.

    It’s time to bust one of the biggest myths around - that resilience is the golden ticket to your success. We’re taught that if we just push a little bit harder, grind longer and prove we can handle it, somehow we’ll win at this game of life and business. Spoiler alert: we’ve been sold a furphy.  

    I’ve experienced firsthand the pressure this creates, and see it all the time with my clients. Some of them are absolutely smashing it.  But behind the scenes, the cracks are starting to form. And the worst part? They’re telling themselves they need to push even harder.

    The hustle linked to ‘resilience’ has the potential to break us. I don’t want to live that way - and I’m sure you don’t, either. So, let's debunk this myth together and discover what to do instead to build sustainable success. We’ll explore the four pillars of sustainable success that have become my framework for creating a life and business by design:

    1. Purpose: Align work with what energises you
    2. Prosperity: Ensure fair value exchange
    3. Pleasure: Integrate joy into daily life
    4. Freedom: Make choices that reflect your values, knowing sustainable success comes from intentional adaptation, not endless endurance.

    Here’s what I know now: success doesn’t have to be equated with sacrifice. I encourage you to reflect. Where in your life are you still stubbornly being the 'rock'? Where can you allow yourself to be more like the 'river'? As you reflect on this, consider what small changes you might make today that your future self will thank you for.
