That’s what Perry thought as a teenager. No Jesus follower ever admitted to him that they were struggling. He thought he had to be all put together.
We’re are driven by our desire to avoid pain. To fake it till we make it. Yet, suffering is unavoidable. So let’s be honest, let’s be human.
Dave Horne, Spiritual Director at Winning at Home, reminds us that Jesus massively suffered. He understands our physical, emotional, relational, and even spiritual pain.
Through experiencing deep loneliness Dave learned how healing connection is. We are created for community!
After 20 years as a pastor and 8 years as a missionary Dave got his best paying job, yet and 2 weeks in, he hated it! Couldn’t sleep at night. Was miserable.
He discovered that he was exhausted from trying to achieve more, go higher, reach more! He was tired of trying to be someone he wasn’t.
It was in his suffering that God allowed Dave to learn about himself and to connect more deeply with God. The hard things in life are how God gets our attention and changes us.
Also, in this episode, Shawna shares what it feels like to be entering into being an empty nester. What’s next? On the day Jesus died the disciples had no idea what was next. But resurrection was just around the corner. It may feel like Friday, but Sunday’s coming!
Perry admits, “I let my best friend down.” Perry’s friend had a shining moment in the past couple weeks. And Perry showed up half-heartedly. And what he received from his buddy after he admitted it, blew him away.
