In this episode, we sit down with Sheri and Matt Salis from the Untoxicated Podcast to explore the complexities of addiction, recovery, and the profound impact these experiences have on relationships. Sheri and Matt share their journey, starting from the early years of their marriage, through the decade of Matt's active addiction, and into the challenging process of rebuilding their lives and relationship.

We dive deep into topics like natural detachment, resentment processing, and how addiction reshapes not just the addict but also their partner. Sheri opens up about the anger and resentment she carried while navigating life with an addicted partner and the turning point that led her to seek her own recovery. Matt reflects on the pain of early sobriety, the humbling process of earning back trust, and the realization that love wasn’t enough—respect and healing were just as crucial.

Together, they discuss the often-overlooked trauma that partners endure, the importance of individual growth, and why validation, empathy, and independent recovery are at the heart of healing. Whether you're the partner of someone in addiction or someone striving for sobriety, this conversation offers hope, insight, and actionable wisdom for anyone walking this difficult path.

  • Paige's Perspective: The Hard Truth: No One Can Save You But You
    2025/01/10

Have an episode suggestion? Text us!

It’s a week into the new year, and while resolutions are fresh on our minds, some of you may already feel yourself slipping. This is the perfect time to confront a reality that can change everything: no one is coming to save you. If you’ve been waiting for someone to fix your life, make decisions for you, or pull you out of the tough situations you’re in, it’s time to stop. The truth might feel harsh, but it’s also freeing—because the power to change your life has been in your hands all along.

In this episode, I’ll unpack why we often believe someone is supposed to save us, from cultural conditioning to the fear of independence. For some, this waiting game looks like hoping a partner will change—believing that if they just get it together, everything will fall into place. But that’s another way of handing over your power. When we pin our happiness on someone else’s actions, we give them control over our lives instead of taking responsibility for our own growth.

I’ll also challenge the myth of rock bottom and the excuses we use to avoid responsibility, while exploring how to break free from the victim mindset and start building the skills to save yourself. Along the way, I’ll share examples, practical steps, and a message of hope: you don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to take action.

Because here’s the hard truth: no one else can live your life or make your decisions for you. But that’s also the good news—you have everything you need to become your own hero. So let’s talk about how to do the damn work and reclaim your power.

  • Paige’s Perspective: Complaining – Are You Venting or Staying Stuck?
    2024/12/20

Have an episode suggestion? Text us!

In this episode, we’re getting real about complaining—why we do it, when it’s healthy, and when it becomes a trap that keeps us stuck. Complaining isn’t the enemy; sometimes, you need to let off steam and call out the frustration. But here’s the truth: if all you’re doing is talking about the problem without taking action, you’re just spinning your wheels.

    We’ll dive into:

    • The good side of complaining—how venting can clear your head and highlight what needs to change.
    • The downside—how staying in a cycle of complaints keeps you powerless, drains your energy, and blinds you to solutions.
    • The key question you need to ask yourself: “Am I releasing this, or am I living in it?”

Because complaining feels productive in the moment, but progress only happens when you’re ready to stop rocking in that chair and take a step forward.

“It’s okay to hate where you are. Just don’t plant roots there.”

Let’s talk about getting out of the complaining trap and back into action.
