With his unwavering commitment and unparalleled work ethic, he rose to the ranks to his current position, working side-by-side with Dee Brown, brainstorming ideas for their next life-changing project, and experiencing satisfaction from numerous accomplishments.

    “Will Smith slaps Chris Rock on The Oscars stage.”

    You must have been watching the event on your television at that moment. You must have heard or read about it as the news spread quickly online. How did you feel? It's easy enough to pass judgment and say that  Will acted irrationally, or you can defend his action because he did it to protect his woman. 

    What happened at that moment is something that serves as a lesson for every one of us. The Oscars is an event meant to celebrate winners. But that brief moment when Will gave in to his emotions tainted the mood of that night and resulted in severe repercussions for him.

    What is it like to be an African American law enforcement officer? How does someone protect and serve his community and make a difference?

    Joining Dee Brown in today's episode is the Honorable Gerald Robinson, Jefferson County, AR Judge. Judge Robinson started his career in law enforcement as a Deputy Jailer with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO). He quickly rose from the ranks to become the first African-American and 31st Sheriff of Jefferson County. Sheriff Robinson held a deep commitment to Community Policing and fostered a "participatory management" philosophy in which all employees were given a voice in the operation of the Sheriff's Office.  He also supported the continued modernization of all operations to better serve both personnel and the public.

    Sheriff Robinson retired from the Sheriff’s Office on December 31, 2018. But that was not the end of his law enforcement career. He was elected and sworn in as Jefferson County Judge on January 1, 2019, becoming the first Jefferson County Sheriff to be elected as Jefferson County Judge. Upon taking office, Judge Robinson focused his efforts on strengthening the county’s budget, eliminating waste, improving efficiency, upgrading technology and infrastructure, and making the county business more transparent.

    Dee and Judge Robinson talk about using your God-given talents to make a difference in whatever role or capacity you are in and leaving each place better than before!

The lack of financial literacy, low income, and systematic inequalities are just some of the challenges that prevent this community from reaching financial independence.
