What is it like to be an African American law enforcement officer? How does someone protect and serve his community and make a difference?
Joining Dee Brown in today's episode is the Honorable Gerald Robinson, Jefferson County, AR Judge. Judge Robinson started his career in law enforcement as a Deputy Jailer with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO). He quickly rose from the ranks to become the first African-American and 31st Sheriff of Jefferson County. Sheriff Robinson held a deep commitment to Community Policing and fostered a "participatory management" philosophy in which all employees were given a voice in the operation of the Sheriff's Office. He also supported the continued modernization of all operations to better serve both personnel and the public.
Sheriff Robinson retired from the Sheriff’s Office on December 31, 2018. But that was not the end of his law enforcement career. He was elected and sworn in as Jefferson County Judge on January 1, 2019, becoming the first Jefferson County Sheriff to be elected as Jefferson County Judge. Upon taking office, Judge Robinson focused his efforts on strengthening the county’s budget, eliminating waste, improving efficiency, upgrading technology and infrastructure, and making the county business more transparent.
