  • Matthew
    2025/08/10
Texts: Matthew 9:9-13; Mark 2:13-15; Luke 5:27-32 Jesus’s passion for noticing and befriending outcasts was on full display in His selection of disciples. One of Jesus’s closest followers was Matthew, a man who had betrayed both his people and his knowledge of Scripture by selling out to the Romans as a tax collector. Matthew’s place among the Twelve Disciples demonstrates God’s willingness and power to welcome and use those others consider a lost cause. Working big idea: Jesus rescues lost people as an invitation to other lost people. NOTE: This would be a strategic day for Gospel emphasis.

  • THE WOMAN AT THE WELL
    2025/08/03
Text: John 4 Jesus’s first clear revelation of His identify as Israel’s Messiah was, ironically, not to a Jew, but to a Samaritan woman regarded as an outcast by both the Jews and her own people. Jesus went out of His way to talk with her, teach her, and reveal that God’s acceptance hinges not on ethnicity or geography, but on spiritual honesty. Working big idea: Jesus seeks not the popular, but the receptive.

Texts: 1 Samuel; Psalm 51 As a warrior, David freed Israel from Philistine oppression. As a king, he led Israel into great peace and prosperity. And as a poet and musician, He wrote numerous songs of worship and prophetic insight. Yet his life was also marred by moments of great selfishness and corruption. Yet even in his sin, David remained teachable, and God used him powerfully, despite his flaws. Working big idea: God uses the repentant, not the perfect.

  • Moses

Texts: Exodus 1-40; Deuteronomy 1-34 Moses is regarded throughout Scripture as a hero of faith. But the events he’s most famous for—leading Israel out of slavery, receiving God’s Law, writing the first five books of the Old Testament—are interspersed with moments of impulsiveness, self-doubt, and disobedience. Working big idea: God does great things through imperfect but fully surrendered people.

The key to holy living is reliance on the Holy Spirit. Our lives are a battleground in which our flesh (the urges of our bodies) and the Holy Spirit duke it out for supremacy. And our actions and attitudes demonstrate who is winning the fight.

  • A Tale of Two Women

Religious rule-keeping is not spiritual growth. But when legalism is all we’ve known, it’s easy—even after encountering the grace of Jesus—to revert back to the futility of trying to earn our salvation.

  • Coming of Age
    2025/06/15
The entire Old Testament anticipated Jesus because Law alone is unable to give life or produce righteousness. Regardless of ethnicity, gender, or economic status, all who are in Christ—are God’s children.
