One of Jesus’s closest followers was Matthew, a man who had betrayed both his people and his knowledge of Scripture by selling out to the Romans as a tax collector. Matthew’s place among the Twelve Disciples demonstrates God’s willingness and power to welcome and use those others consider a lost cause. Working big idea: Jesus rescues lost people as an invitation to other lost people. NOTE: This would be a strategic day for Gospel emphasis.

And as a poet and musician, He wrote numerous songs of worship and prophetic insight. Yet his life was also marred by moments of great selfishness and corruption. Yet even in his sin, David remained teachable, and God used him powerfully, despite his flaws. Working big idea: God uses the repentant, not the perfect.
