  • When Martha’s life circumstances changed her guardrails around drinking changed too.. - Episode 7
    2024/12/06

In this episode, you'll meet Martha, whose life as an on call midwife kept her drinking under control. But when she retired, those guardrails evaporated. And when COVID lockdown hit, like so many other people, she found herself drinking more than she'd ever wanted to. Fed up with the cycle of frustration and shame, her journey to alcohol freedom began with an Instagram post about the science led, compassionate approach of the This Naked Mind methodology, in which Justine and I are both certified coaches.

It was the promise that her situation wasn't her fault that gave her the courage to sign up to a coaching programme that would change the trajectory of her life forever

  • Mark from Impossibrew has created beer with the buzz but not the alcohol! - Episode 6
    2024/11/22

In this episode, we meet with Mark Wong, the founder of the Impossibrew Alcohol Free Brewing Company, who you may recognize from his appearance on Dragon's Den. , after hearing he had a liver condition that meant he could no longer drink alcohol, this beer loving Durham University philosophy student was so unimpressed with the lack of buzz he got from the alcohol free beers on the market that he set out to create his own alcohol alternative.

With the help of a professor from the University's Bioscience Department, and inspired by a trip to Hong Kong, where he dove into the rich culture of Asian medicine, mark has found ingredients that he says give his alcohol free beers the buzz and relaxation we associate with what he amusingly calls the legacy beer category

  • Jessie realises alcohol isn't the answer to Shame, ADHD, Autism or Trauma - Episode 5
    2024/11/08

In this episode, we meet with Jessie from Boston, a trained sommelier and hard liquor aficionado who describes her family as having many generations of alcohol dependence. We'll hear how she herself has had to come to terms with both ADHD and autism, as well as childhood trauma.

That trauma was triggered again during the COVID pandemic, where her alcohol use came to a head. Working 14 hour days in an essential service was tough enough, but being locked down also brought back the trauma of being trapped as a child. Jessie describes herself as a rebel down to the core of her being, and so the strict rules of AA weren't for her.

And in fact, it was a podcast that started her journey to finding alcohol freedom!
