  • サマリー

  • Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 10 Episode 74 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Saturday morning 14 September 2024.

Happy birthday Ron Blake & Dean Jennings!

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is mostly cloudy and a sizzling 25 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning.

In Rugby Union: The Super Rugby Pacific 2025 season will feature an additional round of action, including more family-friendly afternoon fixtures and three Sunday afternoon games.
    • 11 teams will play 14 regular season games, consisting of seven home games and seven away games, with two byes.
    • Teams will play four teams twice, with a focus on rivalry match-ups, and the six remaining teams once
    • The top six teams on the table at the end of the regular season will qualify for the three-week Finals Series

In Rugby League: Panthers skipper Nathan Cleary has only played 11 NRL games this season, but his 12th last night was a masterclass, leading Penrith to another preliminary final.

Cleary finished with 47M run, four tackle busts, three line-break assists and three try assists to guide the Panthers to a 30-10 rout of the Sydney Roosters in their qualifying final.

Today at 4:05pm at AAMI Park in Melbourne, the Melbourne Storm take on the Cronulla Sharks.

In Football: The hearing over 115 financial irregularity charges filed against Manchester City by the Premier League starts Monday.

The EPL is accusing the winners of its last four titles of breaching financial rules.

Manchester City could face a penalty as strict as outright relegation.

In the NFL: Miami Dolphins star Samoan quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa left the field in distressing scenes after another brutal head knock during the Dolphins clash against the Buffalo Bills yesterday.

Tagovailoa, who signed a four-year US$211Million contract extension in July, has a history of concussion in his short NFL career, having suffered two in 2022, just four days apart, which resulted in the firing of the neurological consultant who cleared Tagovailoa to play on after the first one.

The NFL has since altered its concussion policy, allowing a medical spotter to have players removed from the game if they show concussion symptoms.

In Sports Biz: Football giants Manchester City plan to introduce an Oasis-themed alternate jersey, in collaboration with Noel Gallagher and Puma.

The recently reformed band hails from Manchester, where the other half of Oasis – Liam Gallagher supports crosstown rivals Manchester United.

And finally in Combat Sports: “Yeah, why not?” Saul Canelo Alvarez told BoxingScene. “Easy. Very easy money… I will knock him out any time I want. One, two or three rounds – whatever I want.”

This after UFC President and CEO, Dana White told BoxingScene to “put a pin on” a potential fight between Canelo and Conor McGregor.

Canelo has wiped out the boxing Super Middleweight division over the last four years, with Edgar Berlanga up next on Saturday night in what many assume will be a cakewalk for boxing’s biggest breadwinner.

McGregor meanwhile, predicts that UFC306, which is also being held Saturday night in Las Vegas at The Sphere, will blow Alvarez’s fight out of the water: "Canelo is a cornflake," said McGregor. "He doesn't sell.”

Even though Alvarez perceives McGregor as child's play, the crossover fight could generate big business, but first McGregor needs to return to the UFC cage and pick up some wins.

McGregor, 36, has not fought since suffering a broken leg in 2021.

And he wants to be President of Ireland!

    That’s a wrap Peeps!
