    The first trial for a soldier stationed at the U.S. Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 16, was held on July 12 at the Naha District Court. The incident occurred on December 24 last year, and although the soldier was indicted in March, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not inform Okinawa Prefecture until June 25. If the information had been made public promptly, it could have had a significant impact on the prefectural assembly elections, which took place on June 16. Questions are being raised as to why this information was withheld. The situation evokes memories of previous sexual assault cases, including the notorious 1995 incident, stirring anger and sadness.


    沖縄のアメリカ軍嘉手納基地に所属する兵士が、16歳未満の少女を誘い出し性的暴行をしたとして起訴された事件の初公判が7月12日、那覇地裁で行われました。この事件は昨年12月24日に起き、兵士は3月に起訴されていたにもかかわらず、6月25日まで外務省は沖縄県に伝えていませんでした。速やかに公になっていれば、6月16日投開票だった県議選への影響も計り知れない。なぜ情報は伏せられたのか。1995年の少女暴行事件など、これまでの性犯罪事件を思い出させる事態に、怒りと悲しみの声が上がっています。

    Haitai amazing people, 6.23慰霊の日ということで、御年88歳のゲストやすこおばーちゃんのお話を聞かせて頂きました。 沖縄戦を体験した当時は8歳だったとのことで、本人が覚えてる限りの記憶を辿り、与那原から金武町に避難した事、終戦後に米軍基地（12年）や自衛隊（24年）で働いたこと、自身の記憶では日本兵もアメリカ兵もみんな親切にしてくださったことなど。 沖縄戦の話となると「人が人ではなくなる」悲惨な情景を体験した方もいるけれど、まだ幼かったということもあり戦争中の話が中心ではなく、終戦後の生活に対してイメージが深まる話がたくさんありました。 Special guest for Okinawa Memorial Day 2024. We got a chance to listen precious narrative from Yasuko (88 years old). She was only 8 when the battle of Okinawa started, she was about to start going to school. After the battle began, she and her family evacuated from Yonabaru to Kin on foot, about 50km. After the battle she went for school for several years but she decided to get a job and had worked for US military(12 years) and Japanese self defense force(24 years).
