    In Whom Do We Trust?

“Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel.”- Psalm 71:4

In all my years of studying religion, theology, and philosophy, I’ve never come across a satisfactory answer for the problem of evil in the world created and sustained by a good God.

Some would say it’s all part of a master plan that will one day be revealed. Others take the state of the world as evidence that there is no God- at least not an all powerful, all knowing, all good one.

As for myself, I’ve stopped trying to answer the question or debate the point. Instead, I’ve decided to embrace the mysterious presence that is all around us, the presence best experienced through faith, hope, and love.

I don’t know why hardship and suffering, injustice and inequality are so stubbornly pervasive. But I know I’m not bowing down to them.

As the old hymn goes, “I have decided to follow Jesus…. No turning back, no turning back.”

I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
