A nurse's offer of sanctuary promises Sylvie the supplies she needs to survive the zombies - it's the coexisting with people that might do her in. Eric Forrest will do whatever it takes to get into the dead city for his sister, including ending up dead himself. He's used to taking risks, but with every mile he travels death looks likelier.

Months into the apocalypse, the zombies show no signs of dying, but it's clear everyone in Sunset Park will die without enough food to outlast the undead. Add in the less-than-sociable new neighbors only blocks away, and the hunt for sustenance has come to feel more like a race than a ramble. Sylvie is happy in her new home with the people who've become like family, though she's still working out how to let them into her heart. Eric wants in, and he wants to find his sister, but he can't do both at the same time.

Peter steht auf einem Müllcontainer, umringt von Zombies. Er sieht die Menschen, die seine neue Familie geworden sind, davonfahren und bereitet sich darauf vor, sein Leben opfern, um sie zu retten. Doch manchmal kommt zum Glück alles anders, als man denkt! Sein neuer Plan: Seine Familie wiederfinden. Aber manchmal kommt eben dummerweise alles anders, als man denkt. Auf seinem Weg wird Peter immer wieder auf die Probe gestellt und der einst so nervige reiche Bengel zeigt, was in ihm steckt … und wie er wirklich ist.

Ma il disgelo primaverile significa anche milioni di zombie scongelati e, se lo scorso anno le ha insegnato qualcosa, è che la vita in questo nuovo mondo è molto imperfetta.
