Les actes manqués ont un sens. Nous désignons par actes manqués les phénomènes qui se produisent lorsqu'une personne prononce ou écrit, en s'en apercevant ou non, un mot autre que celui qu'elle veut dire ou tracer (lapsus) ; lorsqu'on lit, dans un texte imprimé ou manuscrit, un mot autre que celui qui est réellement imprimé ou écrit (fausse lecture), ou lorsqu'on entend autre chose que ce qu'on vous dit, sans que cette fausse audition tienne à un trouble organique de l'organe auditif.
