De la fin tragique des tsars aux archives secrètes du Vatican, une intrigue au cœur de la guerre 1914-1918. L'annonce parlait d'un gîte perdu au milieu des collines, de calme et de paix. Mais pas du passé sanglant de cet endroit que personne n'habitait plus et qui avait abrité un dompteur allemand et ses fauves pendant la Première Guerre mondiale.

Gaetano Marino interpreta "La camera in attesa", classica novella di Pirandello incentrata sul patetismo degli affetti familiari sullo sfondo della Grande Guerra.

Pubblicata per la prima volta nell'agosto del 1915 sul Giornale di Sicilia, "Colloquii coi personaggi" è una novella in cui possiamo ascoltare lo stesso Pirandello mentre dialoga con un personaggio e con il ricordo della madre defunta. Ambientata allo scoppio della Prima Guerra Mondiale, la novella presenta un'interessante riflessione sui doveri dell'intellettuale e su quelli dell'autore.

Pubblicata per la prima volta nel 1919, "Berecche e la guerra" verrà poi inserita da Pirandello in "Novelle per un anno". Pirandello ci presenta la storia del Prof. Berecche, studioso e cultore della Germania, che dovrà confrontarsi con il dramma e l'insensatezza della Prima Guerra Mondiale.

Allo scoppio della Grande Guerra Marco Leccio decide di arruolarsi. Si presenta così alla leva con tanto di divisa da garibaldino.
