Sane Child vs. Insane Society: Some Thoughts on Education (2017) is a scholarly article that contends that children are born sane and are rendered more or less insane by an educational system that, till now, considers the human being as the impossible human - that is, a creature that is basically faulty and has to be improved and upgraded by education and morality.

Holmes' Hand wies den Strahlen unserer Lampen den Weg durch die Dunkelheit eines mit Unrat angefüllten Kellergewölbes zu einem massiven hölzernen Sessel, auf dem, notdürftig mit einer schmutzigen Decke zugedeckt, reglos eine menschliche Gestalt saß. Zwei nackte Beine ragten, an die Sesselfüße gefesselt, verdreht unter der Decke hervor.

Kann sich ein Mensch binnen weniger Tage komplett ändern? Mit dieser Frage tritt an Weihnachten ein Klient an den Meisterdetektiv heran. Er erkenne seine Frau seit kurzem nicht mehr wieder. Was verbirgt sie vor ihm? Holmes nimmt die Sache zunächst nicht ernst, verspricht aber zu helfen. Die Lösung ist einfach und doch kompliziert. Eines ist sicher: Dieses Weihnachten wir das Leben seines Klienten nebst Gattin für immer verändern.

Was geschah mit dem jungen Ellis Morton? Sein Halbbruder, Sir Peter Clapp-Rothe, spricht bei Sherlock Holmes vor und bittet ihn, in dieser Sache tätig zu werden. Angeblich stürzte Ellis vom Dach als er versuchte, einen Tennisball aus der Dachrinne zu fischen. Doch Ellis war komplett unsportlich, sogar aus gesundheitlichen Gründen nicht in der Lage, Sport zu treiben. Und schon gar nicht Tennis.

Sherlock Holmes lebt längst in den Sussex Downs im Ruhestand, als eine dubiose Filmproduktion ohne sein Wissen einen erotischen Stummfilm über ihn dreht, der in speziell dafür eingerichteten Pubs gezeigt wird. Seine lieben Arztkollegen haben nichts Besseres zu tun, als Watson das Lichtspiel vorzuführen. Watson ist entsetzt. Noch entsetzter ist er, als erfährt, dass sein Freund Opfer des Hauptdarstellers, eines Gelegenheits-Hochstaplers, geworden ist, der als angeblicher Sherlock Holmes Geld von einem potentiellen Kunden unterschlagen hat.
