  • # 167 | Violence against Nurses and Health Workers increases: Ohio's Nurses request reform
    2025/06/18
The nursing shortage is worsening. After Covid-19 deadly spread killed nearly 900 people and infected nearly 100,000 residents, it also caused a substantial loss of nurses and health care workers, who worked through life-threatening conditions with inadequate supplies and staffing for much of the pandemic.

Now, the Ohio Nurses Association has issued a CODE RED, saying Ohio lawmakers need to step in to create laws that require hospitals, etc. to comply with mininum staffing standards. It's no only fair to the workers, it's crucial for patient outcomes. Find out the number one bad outcome for patients is caused by under-staffing in this program.

My guest is Rick Lucas, the Director of the Ohio Nurses Association, serving as the voice of more than 160,000 registered nurses, to protect them, their patients and communities.

  • # 166 | People Working Cooperatively' s Repair Affair in June
    2025/06/18
From PWC: This year, PWC celebrates its golden anniversary. For 50 years, this nonprofit has been a helping hand to neighbors in the community, keeping them safe and healthy in their homes as long as possible - with both professional technicians and volunteers making a difference year after year.

One of PWC's bigger volunteer events of the year is coming up in June! Repair Affair is an opportunity for people to put their home repair skills to good use providing home maintenance services for seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans living on low or fixed incomes. You don't need to be a pro to volunteer for this one either!

Celebrations continue all year as the nonprofit celebrates 50 years and a new headquarters in Sharonville! They're encouraging the community to get involved whether it be volunteering for events such as Repair Affair, or through monetary donations. $50 for 50 years can really make a difference in keeping people safe and healthy in their homes for decades to come.

  • # 160 | Xavier grad/photographer publishes stunning coffee table book "Cincinnati Dreaming"
    2025/05/07
He fell in love with Cincinnati while studying for his masters at Xavier University. Michael Poggioli spent four years in the Queen City, exploring his love of street photography and the city he called home, in-between his psychology coursework and his job at a Vine Street coffee shop. Poggioli's unique stylized photos of the city are stunning, exploiring the city's iconic landmarks, including Carew Tower, Fountain Square and Cincinnati Union Terminal. He takes readers to heights for views the public can't see: top of the Roebling, above Great American Ball Park, and high above the Ohio River and neighborhoods without use of a drone. Using light to its fullest, he brings out the golden colors of twilight, the morning glow and nighttime views so spectacular, it makes one wonder how he does it. Michael explains how he got to Xavier, how he shot the images and how those who love the Queen City can take home a piece of home.
