  • Ep.336 - Chinese Students Vs AI, "Akon City" & Arthur Ashe
    2025/07/09

    In a week where:

    1. Sean Combs is found guilty of two of five counts; maximum sentence is 20 years.
    2. Liverpool’s Diogo Jota & brother Andre die in a car crash.
    3. Actor Michael Madsen - frequent Tarantino collaborator - dies aged 67.
    4. MPs Jeremy Corbyn & Zarah Sultana announce intention to form a new party.
    5. The US Government says there's nothing to see here with Jeffrey Epstein.

In the 1st of two Life segments - (9:29) With everything going on, it is always worth thinking, always worth knowing, that a lot of the ills we see on the daily, is the system working as it should.

In Education - (23:04) It's always fascinating getting a look at how China do things and Education is one that has always been done differently. Their students are already beating AI detectors already!

In the 2nd Life segment - (33:03) The odyssey that is "Akon City" is finally getting sunset after all these years. All I can say, is that I'm surprised it went this long.

Lastly, In Sports - (46:29) With Wimbledon in full swing, I thought it'd be good to hear about a Black Tennis pioneer in Arthur Ashe, specifically a story about how iconic he was, especially in Africa.

  • Barbican's "Rebel Radio" - Part Three
    2025/07/03

The good people at Barbican have blessed me with an opportunity to cover a portion of their month-long programme called "Rebel Radio": "the sound of resistance and reinvention across this month-long celebration of pirate radio and its lasting impact on music, culture and community."

In the final part, I take in the last talk, simply named "Where Are All The House Parties?", hosted by BBC Radio 1Xtra's Richie Brave with panellists DJ Alex Rita, Writer/Director Caleb Femi & DJ Lynda Rosenior-Patten. I give thoughts minutes after the talk itself and overall thoughts about the past few weeks.

I also get into the last screening of the programme "Airwaves of Rebellion: Youth, Identity, and the Fight for Community Radio" which showed another clip from a BBC coverage on Pirate Radio via their series "Radio Nights", an episode of one of the first shows directed at Black British audiences, aptly named "Ebony" and a Channel 4 Doc called "Black and White Pirate Show, the latter of which featured an introduction from Producer of the show Rob Burkitt.

Thanks to Barbican Centre for letting me get a taste of Rebel Radio and allowing me to cover the talks in the way I wanted.

    2025/06/26

The good people at Barbican have blessed me with an opportunity to cover a portion of their month-long programme called "Rebel Radio": "the sound of resistance and reinvention across this month-long celebration of pirate radio and its lasting impact on music, culture and community."

One of my favourite conversations to date.

  • Barbican's "Rebel Radio" - Part One
    2025/06/19

The good people at Barbican have blessed me with an opportunity to cover a portion of their month-long programme called "Rebel Radio": "the sound of resistance and reinvention across this month-long celebration of pirate radio and its lasting impact on music, culture and community."

For the first of three parts, I recap one of three talks they have and one of three film screenings. The talk is called "Rebel Archivist" featuring Oral Historian Dr. Aleema Gray, Writer Aniefiok Ekpoudom and Photographer Eddie Otchere. I then recap a screening called "Breaking the Silence: Pirate Radio, Black Media, and Voices of Resistance" which was an outstanding shift between two TV documentaries and two excerpts of two more docs, all to paint a picture in how TV covered Pirate Radio and the Black Arts.

Thank you for listening! If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Let me know "What's Good?"
