  • 'Morning Quickie': No funny business on Election Day
    2024/11/05
Today Election Day, and voters will take to the polls to make their voices heard, from deciding the next US President, to a variety of local and state races and issues. I don’t know what they’re expecting in Pennsylvania, but Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner held a news conference yesterday warning everyone to not cause problems. Krasner said “We do have the cuffs, we do have the jail cells,” then added “Eff around and find out.” Early voting ended in Ohio on Sunday. The next and final opportunity to vote is on Tuesday when polls open. Polls open in Ohio at 6:30 a.m. They close at 7:30 p.m. As long as you are in line by 7:30 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.

Dollar dollar bill, y'all … Your money may be no good at Bank of America. One of the country's largest banks announced it will no longer accept $1 bills that are damaged. If you have any bills that are overly worn, torn, discolored, or damaged by excessive moisture, Bank of America doesn't want them. The institution cites concerns about counterfeiting for the change and believes reducing the number of damaged bills in circulation could weed out the counterfeit ones. • 'Morning Quickie': Music Icon Quincy Jones Dies At 91
    2024/11/04
GRAMMY Award-winning record producer Quincy Jones is dead at the age of 91. Jones was born on the South Side of Chicago and at age 14 he introduced himself to then-16-year-old Ray Charles, who he cites as an inspiration for his own music career. Jones began traveling around the country on tour with different acts playing the trumpet, including in the studio band that supported Elvis Presley. In 1961, Jones became an artists-and-repertoire director for Mercury Records, becoming the first African-American to do so. Jones' career in the entertainment industry spanned over 60 years and he worked with artists such as Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson. Jones produced Jackson's all-time best-selling album “Thriller,” as well as “Off The Wall,” and “Bad.” Along with the King of Pop and Lionel Richie, Jones organized the all-star charity recording of "We Are the World." He later produced the film “The Color Purple” and the television series “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
