Such a heinous act, cutting down a young woman in the prime of her life, and forever preventing the world from experiencing what Carol could have provided it. 

Why do otherwise intelligent people do stupid things?  Passion, love, hubris, envy, greed, boredom, among others.   The more intelligent, the more they will be able to convince themselves of the virtue or altruism of their decisions.  That doesn’t make the reality of those decisions any less careless or callous.

T. Eugene Thompson spent 20 years in Stillwater State Prison for some of those choices and never once admitted his guilt, instead creating a web of deceit and delusion for decades. 

A son and father sit down to discuss the man who made them,  who may haunt them, but did not and do not define them.
