  • Ep. 35: Be Selective
    2025/07/15

When Jason Matzinger began making his films, what he brought to the world was an entirely new way to look at a hunt. Dylan and Jason talk about his journey into film making, but really take a deep dive into his most recent film, Selective, and what it means to be a selective hunter.

Don’t get it confused with trophy hunting. SELECTIVE hunting is understanding what animals need be taken off of the landscape, and targeting those animals. Selective hunting is understanding that sometimes we pass bulls with bigger antlers to shoot the older more mature bulls with less impressive antlers.

The purpose of the episode? To help drive us to make more selective decisions in punching a tag. To get us to consider what animals we shoot and WHY. We are NOT here to tell you that you’re wrong. It’s your tag. If you shoot an animal that is legal and you’re happy with it, I’ll celebrate with you every single time!
