  • Coaching Series Ep1 - Damian Ball on Irish diving, going to Tokyo and growing up in Yorkshire.
    2021/03/29

The Swim Ireland Podcast Coaching Series, hosted by Joanne Murphy from Tri Talking Sport, opens with an insightful chat with Damian Ball, Ireland's National Head Coach for Diving, in the build-up to his team's departure for Tokyo for this year's final Olympic Games qualifier.

It's crunch time for Oliver Dingley, Clare Cryan, Tanya Watson and Ciara McGing, and we've got the inside scoop on how Damian helped them reach this point.

"I think everyone's found a really deep resilience at the moment, and I think they've learnt a lot about themselves over this last period. One of the things with performance athletes across a lot of sports is that they have a tendency to over-train - to want to do too much...."

Damian Ball is Ireland's National Head Coach for Diving with four key athletes under his care, Oliver Dingley, Clare Cryan, Tanya Watson and Ciara McGing. All four divers will be aiming to qualify for the 2021 Olympic Games at the FINA Diving World Cup from May 1-6 (rescheduled from April).
