Cristopher Sánchez became a trendy pick in the spring for a top five NL Cy Young Award finish.

He pitched like one in Thursday’s 6-4 victory over the Giants. He struck out 12 batters, the most by a Phillies left-hander since Cole Hamels struck out 13 in his no-hitter against the Cubs in his final start for the organization in 2015.

In case you missed it, Alec Bohm and Brandon Marsh have been going through a terrible start to the 2025 season.

But both had important at-bats in Tuesday night’s 6-4 victory over the Giants. Marsh’s sacrifice fly in the second inning gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead. Bohm’s base hit in the sixth inning gave the Phillies the lead. Afterward, Harper had some philosophical thoughts about players struggling in the big leagues:

“I just want [Bohm] to enjoy the game. Life could be a lot harder. Life can be a lot tougher. We get to play this beautiful game every day. I was standing in the on-deck circle in the third inning and I was thinking about it, 'Man, it’s a great game we get to play.' Obviously, you’re going to get your ups and downs in life and in the season. It’s a hard thing to do. It is. But at the end of the day, we’re all healthy, we’re all strong. Just go out there and enjoy it because it’ll go quick and you’ll start thinking to yourself, 'Why did I take it so serious? And it’s gone now.'”

Everybody was riding high a week ago, then the Phillies went 2-4 in Atlanta and St. Louis.

Alec Bohm hit a rocket to Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies in his first at-bat on Thursday night in Atlanta.

Albies caught it. Bohm flipped his bat. Bohm went 0 for 5 in the Phillies’ 4-2 loss in 11 innings at Truist Park. He is batting .160 with no home runs, three RBIs and a .356 OPS in his first 11 games. He is struggling. It shows. He has looked frustrated on the field. He twice declined to speak to reporters before the game. We get into Bohm’s struggles, and some of the overreaction to it.

Edmundo Sosa made the catch of his life in the first inning on Tuesday night in Atlanta, but a huge mistake in left-center field involving both Sosa and center fielder Johan Rojas cost the Phillies the game. Ruben coached big league outfielders in Boston and New York. He breaks down everything that went wrong when they let a ball fall just feet in front of them, leading to a three-run homer from Sean Murphy.

No, but it showed skeptics that the Phillies can not only hang with anybody, but they can beat anybody. We talk about the series against the Dodgers, including Sunday’s 8-7 comeback victory. The Phillies are 5-1 after Taijuan Walker pitched six scoreless innings on Thursday against the Rockies.

It was a great day for Walker, whose mother cried tears of joy from the stands at Citizens Bank Park. It hasn’t been an easy year for Walker, who has been booed in Clearwater, Washington and Philadelphia in just the past couple weeks. Walker was more than just a good baseball story on Thursday. He was a great human story.
