On this talk about something good Tuesday, Kindness takes center stage in this heart-touching episode featuring Lance Matthews, founder of Tales of Love Rescue. What began as a solution for stray dogs wandering onto a reservation hospital campus has blossomed into a lifeline for countless animals across Arizona. Lance shares the origin story of his foster-based rescue organization and announces their upcoming Foster Friday celebration at Woodland Lake Park—a special gathering designed to honor the volunteers who make their mission possible.

"Without fosters, we're not a success," Lance explains, highlighting how these temporary homes provide more than shelter—they teach rescued animals how to trust, love, and simply "be a dog" again. The conversation reveals the behind-the-scenes magic of animal rescue work, where regular people transform lives by opening their homes to animals in transition. For listeners considering fostering, this episode offers valuable insights into what's involved and the profound difference it makes.

The show balances these meaningful discussions with moments of pure joy, including an impromptu "Real or Fake Dog Breed" game that puts Lance's canine knowledge to the test, and a heartwarming story about airport maintenance workers who crawled through baggage machinery to recover a stranger's lost diamond. We also catch up on "Donkey Watch 2025" as Jineane awaits the birth of a baby donkey she's fostering. Whether you're an animal lover, considering fostering, or simply enjoy stories of everyday heroism, this episode reminds us that kindness still shines brightly in our world.

Join Tails of Love Rescue Friday, July 11th from 4-7pm at Woodland Lake Park to learn more about fostering, meet the Tales of Love Rescue team, and perhaps discover your next calling. Visit tailsoflovescue.com or find them on Facebook to see animals currently looking for foster homes or forever families.

Good mornings start with great conversations! This week's Morning Brew delivers heartwarming stories, local updates, and plenty of laughs from our favorite callers across the mountain communities.

We kick things off with Virgil the Cowboy from Eagar, who shares details about his busy Fourth of July weekend moving horses and his unconventional dental hygiene routine that had us all chuckling. When it comes to Global Forgiveness Day, Virgil proves to be the most forgiving person we know—nothing seems to ruffle this cowboy's feathers!

The celebration continues as Paul from Beaumont, Texas recounts an emotional proposal that happened on his birthday. His son Carson surprised girlfriend Nikki with help from their young son Knox, who wore a special shirt asking, "Will you marry my daddy?" Paul's marriage advice? Simply "Don't be jerks"—wisdom that's hard to argue with.

Between games like "Real Dive or Real Lie" for National Dive Bar Day and "Are You Smarter Than a Redneck" featuring chocolate trivia, we get serious with Jineane's news update on the devastating flooding in Texas and the Lucy Canyon fire closer to home. Our brave firefighters have made significant progress building containment lines, Thank you to all the brave Firefighters.

We wrap up with our Monday Motivational Quote from Will Rogers: "Don't let yesterday take up too much of today." As Jineane wisely points out, none of us should carry around our "stinky trash" from the past. It's time to throw it away and move forward.

Subscribe to the Morning Brew for your daily dose of community stories, useful information, and the friendly conversations that make mornings better. How are you leaving yesterday behind today?

  • Pryor Baird: From Four-Chair Turns to Starting Over — A Country Climb Story
    2025/07/03

    Send us a text

Pryor Baird's story unfolds like a country song itself—raw, authentic, and filled with both heartbreak and triumph. From the moment his three-year-old self watched his uncle play guitar and declared "that's exactly what I want to do," music claimed him completely. "You don't pick music, music picks you," Pryor reflects during our intimate conversation, a truth that has sustained him through remarkable highs and devastating lows.

Growing up between divorced parents' homes provided Pryor a rich musical education—blues, jazz, and classical from his mother's house; country, rock, and bluegrass from his father's. By elementary school, he was performing publicly, and by 2011, he'd packed up for Nashville with unwavering determination. Before his breakthrough on The Voice in 2018, Pryor cut grass, roofed houses, and waited tables—whatever it took to keep his dream alive.

His Voice journey resulted in a rare four-chair turn, placing him among only 25 contestants in the show's history to achieve this feat. The ultimate validation came when he stood in the sacred circle at the Grand Ole Opry earlier this year, earning two standing ovations in a profound full-circle moment that felt especially significant after his father's recent passing.

Yet just when things seemed to be falling into place, Pryor found himself in a Tuesday afternoon meeting where he lost his record deal, publishing deal, and management—all at once. Rather than surrendering to defeat, he's embraced this unexpected freedom to release music on his own terms, including the three powerful, unreleased songs we premiere exclusively in this episode: "Hard Days Win," "Favorite Heartbreaker," and "Good Time Don't Care."

"Hard things are hard because they're hard," Pryor philosophizes, "and if this was easy, everybody would be doing it." His standout lyric "Sometimes straight through is the only way around" serves as both personal mantra and universal truth for anyone facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Follow Pryor on social media and support his independent journey—this is an artist who embodies the very resilience his music celebrates.
