  • The New York Slave Revolt of 1712
    2025/05/23

The New York Slave Revolt of 1712 stands as a pivotal moment in the early American colonial struggle against enslavement, marking a fierce uprising that exposed the simmering tensions between enslaved Africans and their oppressors. On April 6, 1712, fueled by brutal living conditions and the relentless desire for freedom, a group of nearly two dozen enslaved individuals ignited a violent rebellion in Lower Manhattan, resulting in the deaths of several white colonists. The revolt was met with swift and merciless retribution from colonial authorities; an array of Draconian measures followed, including executions and harsh penalties for both rebels and innocent black inhabitants alike. This insurrection prompted New York’s government to enact even stricter slave codes, underscoring the deep-rooted fear among colonists of further insurrections. In doing so, it laid bare the stark realities of systemic racism and oppression that would continue to persist throughout America's history.

    2025/05/16

Gaspar Yanga, a formidable figure in the annals of resistance against colonial oppression, is celebrated as one of the first leaders of African descent to mount an armed rebellion in the Americas. Born in the mid-17th century in Angola, he was enslaved and forcibly brought to Mexico, where he established a maroon community in 1609 near Veracruz. Yanga led courageous uprisings against Spanish colonial forces, advocating for freedom not only for himself but for all enslaved individuals. His leadership culminated in a treaty with the Spanish crown that granted autonomy to his people—an extraordinary achievement that paved the way for future struggles against slavery. Today, Gaspa Yanga is recognized as a symbol of resilience and hope within Afro-Mexican culture, reflecting an enduring legacy of courage and defiance against systemic oppression that continues to inspire movements for justice worldwide.

The erasing of Ancient Moorish Culture on a worldwide scale is nothing short of a tragedy. This rich and vibrant civilization made countless contributions to science, math, literature, and countless other fields that have had a lasting impact on our world today. From advancements in astronomy and medicine to the preservation and translation of ancient texts during the Dark Ages in Europe, the Moors were pioneers ahead of their time. However, due to colonialism, imperialism, and Eurocentrism, their achievements have been downplayed or outright ignored in history books and educational curriculums. It is imperative that we acknowledge and celebrate the incredible legacy of Moorish culture and ensure that it is rightfully recognized for its invaluable contributions to human knowledge and progress. It's time to give credit where credit is due.
