  • Episode 7: Rosa Parks
    2021/09/23

    In our 7th episode, we talk about the mother of the civil rights movement, Rosa Parks. Parks made history when she refused to get up from her bus seat and sparked the bus boycott and subsequent movement that ended the segregation of public transportation.  Rose grew up understanding that because of ther skin color, she was never safe and would never be treated equally.  Even at a young age, Rosa knew that this way of living was not right. In one moment, she helped change the course in the fight for racial equality.

  • Episode 6: Anne Frank- Part 2
    2021/08/17

    In Part 2 of our story about Anne Frank, we learn about the tireless efforts of Otto Frank to get his family away from Nazi control. After all options failed, they made the decision to go into hiding for the next 25 months. Living in fear everyday, Anne used her diary as an outlet and a way to document what life was like for her within what she called the “Secret Annex”.  After an anonymous tip, the Franks were arrested and sent to the infamous Nazi extermination camps. Otto Frank was the lone survivor of all who spent those two years in hiding and he dedicated his life to honoring his family and bringing Anne’s words to life.

  • Episode 5: Anne Frank- Part 1
    2021/08/14

    During World War 2, under the command of the tyrant Hitler, the persecution and murder of millions of Jewish people and other minorities left a vile scar upon history. Anne Frank and her family found themselves fighting to find a way out and, sadly, they could not. In this episode, we talk about Anne’s family before they were forced into hiding. Anne’s life started out normal but, while moving towards her pre-teen years, her world started to fall apart around her.  With the unknown looming and knowledge of the Nazi Party’s true intent, her family was faced with the reality that life as they knew it was gone.

  • Episode 4: Florence Nightingale
    2021/08/02

    Known as "The Lady with the Lamp", Florence Nightingale dedicated her life to helping others to fulfill her "calling from God".  Against her family's wishes, she set forth on a career in nursing.  Just when she was making a name for herself, she was called to war and significantly improved the care of wounded soldiers during the Crimean War.  After the war, Nightingale used the knowledge she gained from her service to improve healthcare and changed how people viewed nursing.  Born into a life of wealth, Florence was humble and pushed aside high society life to help the vulnerable and weak.  Known as a pioneer of modern nursing, her selfless work, observations and models of nursing still resonate within the healthcare community today.

  • Episode 3: Harriet Tubman- Part 2

    In the second part of Harriet Tubman's story, we talk about her amazing contributions during the Civil War and her life after the war ended.  She grew up as a slave who had no value according to society and yet she forged through and made a difference for so many.  Her name is well known but there is so much more to her story than we hear growing up.  She dedicated her life to helping others up until her death in 1913.

    “When I found I had crossed that line, I looked at my hands to see if I was the same person. There was such a glory over everything; the sun came like gold through the trees, and over the fields, and I felt like I was in Heaven.”  -Harriet Tubman upon crossing the line into Pennsylvania, a free state.

  • Episode 2: Harriet Tubman- Part 1
    2021/07/18

    In our 2nd episode, we talk about the trailblazer Harriet Tubman.  Tubman played a crucial role in the fight against slavery and brought freedom to so many through the Underground Railroad. After her many trips South to bring family and loved ones to freedom, she took on multiple roles during the Civil War and became the first woman to lead an armed expedition in the war.  After the war, she continuing to care for the vulnerable and helped spread awareness of the Women's Suffrage movement.  Born into a life of slavery, Tubman persevered and earned the title "Moses of Her People". 

    “I was the conductor of the Underground Railroad for eight years, and I can say what most conductors can't say; I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a passenger.”
