  • Not a Podcast: Storytelling with Frank Delaney
    2024/03/18

This being St. Patrick's Day, it felt right to share a very-much-not-for-a-podcast interview with the Irish novelist, journalist, and BBC broadcaster Frank Delaney, from 2010. He left us seven years later, and I miss him. He was an utter delight. Conversations with him were nothing short of delicious, and I think you'll hear why. Photo: © Jerry Bauer Frank Delaney was the author of the New York Times bestselling novel Ireland, as well as Tipperary, Shannon, and Simple Courage: A True Story of Peril on the Sea. A former judge for the Man Booker Prize, Delaney enjoyed a prominent career in BBC broadcasting before becoming a full-time writer. Delaney died in 2017.

But how does it translate to actually living the rest of your life? On this episode, my guest is Charles Morton, chemistry lecturer at Brown University and bassist for bands The Sheila Divine and Aaron and the Lord. Photo: Will Claflin

  • Gen Xers of a Certain Age with Deanna Raybourn
    2022/12/05

I met the author Deanna Raybourn years ago via Twitter, and have been a fan ever since. Her books are deliciously clever, exciting, and feminist treats. (I once described them to a friend as "like candy for brainy girls.") Her latest, Killers of a Certain Age, is all of those things plus a knowing wink to those of us who find ourselves members of the Certain Age Club. In this episode, we discuss the implications of said membership, examining the ways in which Gen X women have taken on the task of making perimenopause and menopause acceptable topics of discussion. Join us for a fascinating discussion!
