Getting married is hard, having children is hard, being an entrepreneur is hard.

But then getting divorced and raising children while trying to stay afloat is a whole other level.

Syreeta and I have been friends for decades, and we live in parallel universes. We both left our own countries for the UK, we both got married, we both had kids about the same age (and almost exactly the same temperment), and we both went through divorces and the trials and tribulations of everything that follows.

During my own divorce, I often spoke to Syreeta to get a female perspective on lots of different things. Our conversation for SparkHub created a 3-part series, each exploring a different aspect of what Syreeta and I went through.

On a business trip the U.S. I managed to fly back to visit my parents in Canada. I asked my dad to sit down and talk about his life.

In this episode I discover what happened before I was born, and after.

Why did my dad leave the UK for Canada? Why did mom follow? What sparked my parents to drive around all of the Americas in a VW campervan for 16 months? Why did we move to South Korea when I was only three and my brother had just been born to build a nuclear plant?

Then much else followed - with patterns that repeat in life, and the acorn never falls far from the tree.

And I can't wait for my children to learn about their heritage as well.

Whether you are single, married or divorced, financial literacy is crucial and beneficial.

Just remember: bills and taxes are forever, you only have a limited time alive, so knowing how to flow money can change your quality of life, and especially if you understand how to be tax efficient and take of advantage of marital benefits.
