  • Silver Screen Podcast - Jurassic Park Review
    2025/06/26

Episode 118 - "Welcome... to Jurassic Park."

“An adventure 65 million years in the making” – and for host Michael Wilson, a passion more than 30 years in the making. In this very special and deeply personal episode of the Silver Screen Podcast, Michael invites you back to where it all began — not for cinema, but for him. Jurassic Park wasn’t just another movie; it was the first film he ever saw on the big screen, and the one that left the biggest footprint (T-Rex-sized, naturally) on his heart. This is more than a review — it’s a celebration, a nostalgic journey, and an emotional tribute to the film that sparked a lifelong love of movies. Joining the expedition are some familiar and new faces: regular co-host and more reliable right-hand man than Dennis Nedry, D.K., returns to help guide the tour. Running a little late to the island but arriving just in time to avoid being eaten, Lady Vean (our own clever girl) joins the fray, alongside her good friend and first-time podcast guest, Thomas Labanick, who's nervously hoping to catch a glimpse of a T-Rex and not end up stuck in the toilet. Together, the group dives deep into the film’s unforgettable impact — not just on pop culture, but on their own lives. From the awe of childhood wonder to the goosebumps that never fade, they reminisce about first viewings, share behind-the-scenes trivia, and discuss what still makes this film such a towering achievement. They explore the ingredients that make Jurassic Park a genuine cinematic titan: sharp and efficient screenwriting, Spielberg’s masterful direction, John Williams’ haunting and iconic musical score, breathtaking cinematography, game-changing animatronics, cutting-edge CGI and a powerhouse cast that brought humanity to the spectacle. There’s laughter, reflection, a few misty-eyed moments, and an overwhelming sense of joy at revisiting a film that continues to inspire. As always, the episode wraps with the audience’s feedback, personal scores, and a final average that might just prove this one’s a dino-sized hit. So turn the lights off, don’t move a muscle, keep those fences electrified, and join us as we return to the island — and to a movie that still finds a way… to move us.

  • Silver Screen Podcast - Aliens (1990 Special Edition) Review
    2025/06/19

Episode 117 - "They mostly come out at night... mostly."

But this episode? It's coming at you right now. Strap in, marines! D.K. is leading the drop on this week's Silver Screen mission as we dive helmet-first into Aliens: Special Edition — James Cameron’s high-octane, heart-pounding, chest-bursting follow-up to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi horror classic. Mike's along for the ride (Ripley-style), joined by Alien franchise veteran Sandy Eavenson and returning filmmaker/genre super-fan Michael Whaley. Together, this crack squad dissects the 1990 Special Edition — from why it's the definitive cut, to hearing James Cameron himself back that up. We talk legendary quotes, explosive action, cut scenes that deepen the lore, and yes… the Alien Queen made of bin bags. Expect behind-the-scenes drama, fun facts (like the tale of James Remar's exit), deep dives into themes of motherhood, militarism, and trauma (including the moment that gives Mike full-on cinematic PTSD). It's part film review, part field report from Hadley’s Hope. So grab your motion tracker, keep an eye on the vents, and don’t forget to check for crawl spaces. This episode is locked, loaded, and coming in hot.

  • HoM: Star Trek Podcast - STAR TREK: PRODIGY Full Series Review
    2025/06/15

Episode 79 - "His hygiene habits probably aren't the best... he's just so personable. I'll put up with anyone."

Hello again officers, and welcome back to 'Hit or Miss: Star Trek' podcast. We've been taking a back seat to let our favourite Time Lord take the spotlight (sadly that hasn't exactly been a runaway success) but we've parked the TARDIS for now and we're back with Starfleet's finest, starting with another of our special full series review episodes. This was on the docket for a while but fate deemed it to be sadly all too timely as we are reviewing the recently officially cancelled Star Trek: Prodigy. Safe to say our intrepid crew aren't happy about that, but they are here to discuss the 40 episodes we got. (Holographic) Captain Mike is back in the host’s chair alongside loyal right-hand man D.K. They're joined by two great guests; returning legend Sci-Fi Queen Nita and first-time guest Connie. We start things off by getting to know new guest Connie, her intro to Trek and favourite Trek things. Then we get into everyone's first impressions of Prodigy, and how that might have changed now that the show has concluded. We examine how Prodigy serves as both a great intro to Star Trek as well as a great continuation of the lore and decide where it ranks in the Trek pantheon. We also dive into beloved characters, favourite storylines, best episodes and, of course, do a fair amount of drooling over starships. Proceedings conclude with your thoughts in our audience feedback section and our final thoughts on the dearly lamented show. So settle in, hug your loved ones as tightly as Rok'tahk and try not to engage in too much "percussive maintenence" as you engage the protostar drive and warp in with us.
