Check out our folky live set we talk about at the end of the episode

Violent Femmes is the debut album by Violent Femmes. Mostly recorded in July 1982, the album was released by Slash Records on vinyl and on cassette in April 1983, and on CD in 1987 with two extra tracks, "Ugly" and "Gimme the Car".

Most of the songs on Violent Femmes and its follow-up were written when songwriter Gordon Gano was an 18-year-old high-school student in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.[9]

The album was recorded at Castle Recording Studios in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin in July 1982. It was self-funded before they had signed with their record label, Slash. Gano said, "It was a strange situation because we hadn't met anyone from Slash or been to Los Angeles when we signed with them. The good thing was because we recorded the album first, it was exactly the way we wanted. There was no executive influence."[10]

  • "Sprouting clumps of mushrooms like a world surreal, this dream won't ever, ever end, and time seems like it'll never begin" this week we look at a compilation from PERE UBU called Terminal Tower: An Archival Collection (1985)
    2025/07/29

    Send us a text

Terminal Tower: An Archival Collection is a compilation album by American rockband Pere Ubu. Released in 1985, the album compiles several of the band's early singles and B-sides, including the Hearthan singles recorded with founder Peter Laughner that were initially compiled on the Datapanik in Year Zero EP, and continuing through later sides recorded with Mayo Thompson.

The original Rough Trade UK LP was fine, but the American Twin Tone LP and CD both played at slightly slow speed (about a half-tone flat) throughout, had the left and right channels reversed and suffered from generally poor sound compared to the UK LP or the US singles. Most of the compilation was properly remastered for the Datapanik in the Year Zero box set, and all subsequent individual reissues of the compilation have used that corrected master.

The album became the first rap LP to top the Billboard 200 chart, and was the second rap album to be certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It is one of Columbia Records' fastest-selling debut records to date and was certified Diamondby the RIAA in 2015 for shipping over ten million copies in the United States.[1] The album received critical acclaim for its unique musical style, chemistry between the group members, and their stylized rapping. Since its release, Licensed to Ill has been ranked by critics as one of the greatest hip hop and debut albums of all time.

  • "Oh, I've seen the nights filled with bloodsport and pain" today we know pleasures as we listen to the post-punk classic UNKNOWN PLEASURES (1979) by JOY DIVISION, with Jacob and Sean!

Unknown Pleasures is the debut studio album by the English rock band Joy Division. It was released on 15 June 1979 through Factory Records.[4] The album was recorded and mixed over three successive weekends at Stockport's Strawberry Studios in April 1979, with producer Martin Hannett contributing a number of unconventional recording techniques to the group's sound. The cover artwork was designed by artist Peter Saville, using a data plot of signals from a radio pulsar.[5] It is the only Joy Division album released during lead singer Ian Curtis's lifetime.

  • "DISTORTED FIGURES WALK THE STREETS, IT'S 1999!" we bring back Pete to experience this speed metal album that was sandwiched between two classics in their discography, MEGADETH, SO FAR... SO GOOD... SO WHAT! (1988)
    2025/07/09

    Send us a text

So Far, So Good... So What! is the third studio album by American thrash metal band Megadeth, released on January 19, 1988, by Capitol Records.[1] It was the band's only album recorded with drummer Chuck Behler and guitarist Jeff Young, both of whom were fired from the band in early 1989, several months after the completion of the album's world tour. So Far, So Good... So What! features music performed at fast tempos with technical ability; lyrically, frontman and guitarist Dave Mustaine addresses a variety of topics, including nuclear holocaust and freedom of speech.

  • John, we're only podcasting AGAIN! Following up from last season, we bring back Colby to listen to a sequel compilation of DAVID BOWIE songs, CHANGESTWOBOWIE (1981)
    2025/07/01

    Send us a text

Changestwobowie is a compilation album by English rock musician David Bowie, issued in November 1981 through RCA Records.[5] It is a companion volume to the 1976 compilation Changesonebowie, and its title and artwork follow the format of that album.

In addition to selected post-1976 singles, the album collected five songs from earlier in Bowie's career that had not appeared on Changesonebowie, including "Wild Is the Wind" from Station to Station, which was released as a single to promote the album, along with a newly filmed video for the track.[6] However, the album did not repeat the chart success of the earlier compilation, reaching No. 24[7] on the UK Album Chart and No. 68 in the United States.
