"It is said that every thousand years civilisations go mad, and wait for the end of the world."
As we all know, the Millennium came and went without an apocalypse, and the millennium bug did not bite. In 1991, Children's BBC series Dark Season, little known writer Russell T. Davies was the harbinger of an end of the 20th century in which computers would indeed destroy the world!
Joining Dani in this exploration of "end times" science fiction is Amber Isles, John's daughter who would have been the target age for when the series was first shown.
Dark Season follows the adventures of third year wunderkind Marcie Hatter, accompanied by her fifth year friends Reet and Thomas as they uncover a sinister plot by the otherworldly Mr Eldritch to merge the children of their school with a vast network of symbiotic computers.
The show is not only a curious piece of early RTD script writing, it also marks the first screen roll for then 15 year old actress Kate Winslet - yes THAT Kate Winslet.
So, will Dark Season see Dani and Amber step into the hot nuclear light, or will they abandon the series beneath the ground for ever more?
