    In this week's news, the Tokyo Olympics has "caused sleepless nights" but must go ahead "to give hope" for the future, so says International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach. With less than a week to go until 5k Parkrun events return in England, the team are working closely with ambassadors and event teams to ensure everything is in place for a smooth reopening this weekend.

    In other event news the ASICS London 10K will return to London this Sunday and the BBC reports that this year's Great North Run will not finish in South Shields.

    Production at some of Nike's largest plants in Vietnam has been disrupted as Covid has spread through factories, online ultra running site iRunFar have unveiled their Best Trail Running Shoes of 2021, Wahoo have launched the Element Rival Multisport GPS watch and COROS have announced that the revamped sports science platform the COROS EvoLab.

    In ultra trail event news Sabrina Verjee is among the top entries for the challenging Cape Wrath Ultra and Run Mummy Run have launched their Run Mummy Run Community Run Club in association with ASICS.

    And finally, Belfast girl Emer McKee, 12, has once again broken the 5k world record for her age group!

    Sneakernomics, a BBC Sounds production about the story of the mavericks and dreamers of footwear who battled to create the world's biggest sports brands, is a highly recommended listen, Trees not Tees have launched into the US and Usian Bolt’s latest arrivals have some rather interesting names!

    In this week's news, Parkrun events are to return in England at end of June after late approvals, the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics organising committee expects to see up to about 225,000 spectators per day in the Japanese capital this summer.

    In product news Jaybird has announced the launch of Jaybird Vista 2 True Wireless Sport Earbuds, Runderwear launch their the men’s and women’s Runderwear Ultra-Light Shorts and  Hoka One One has added to its leadership team with the directorial appointments of Norma Delaney and Erica Gabrielli.

    Adidas has said thank you to the 5 million participants who took part in the Run for the Oceans initiative, a team from Black Trail Runners, supported by inov8, are this week preparing to tackle the iconic Ramsey Round, guided by mountain experts from Girls on Hills and a new film from Like the Wind magazine in collaboration with sock brand Stance, called Home Hills, has been premiered on You Tube.

    And finally, marathon running could improve your brain and eye health, reports Runners World!
