  • Episode 39 - Isabella Young - Author and Cult Survivor Who Overcame Unimaginable Tragedy.
    2025/01/09

On today’s episode of Rule 42, we’re diving into an extraordinary story of resilience, transformation, and the indomitable human spirit. Our guest, Isabella Young, is a trailblazer in Outdoor Education, a mental health advocate, and a survivor of unimaginable tragedy.

With a background in physical education and health, Isabella was a pioneer in therapeutic Outdoor Education in Australia and the founder of Out Doors Inc. This non-profit organization has empowered people with poor mental health through outdoor adventure and recreation for nearly four decades.

But Isabella’s story transcends her professional accomplishments. In 1994, her world was turned upside down when she was widowed while pregnant and raising her three-year-old son.

In the years that followed, Isabella embarked on a profound journey across three continents, exploring healing practices from retreats and shamanic journeys to vision quests. Her path also led her into - and out of - a messianic cult, where she endured years of psychological control and devastating loss, including the murder of her son at the hands of the cult leader.

Now thriving in Hawaii, Isabella has reclaimed her life, writing, creating art, and sharing her wisdom with the world. Her books, Putting on the Armor of God and New Human of New Earth, provide practical tools for physical and mental wellness, spiritual awakening, and personal sovereignty.

Isabella’s journey is one of unimaginable loss, but also extraordinary resilience and hope. Join us as we explore her path of healing, resistance, and empowerment, and discover how her story can inspire us all to overcome life’s darkest moments and emerge stronger than ever on today’s amazing episode of Rule 42!

  • Episode 38 - Liz Benditt - 6-time Cancer Survivor and Creator of The Balm Box!
    2024/12/19

Today’s guest is a powerhouse of resilience, innovation, and heart. Liz Benditt is a 6-time cancer survivor turned entrepreneur who took her personal struggles and transformed them into a mission-driven business. After enduring six different cancers over 15 years, Liz launched TheBalmBox.com - a company delivering functional, thoughtful self-care packages for cancer patients, something she knows firsthand was sorely missing during her own treatments.

But Liz isn’t just a cancer-preneur. With over 25 years of experience as a marketing executive, she’s worked with iconic brands like Disney and Hallmark and is now shaping the next generation of marketers as a professor at the University of Kansas School of Business. She’s also a nonpartisan political advocate, a public speaker featured on NBC, USA Today, and Yahoo News, and somehow still manages life with two teenage kids, a supportive husband, and what she affectionately calls “one terrible dog.”

What’s truly inspiring about Liz is her ability to combine grit and humor. Growing up as the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, she developed an unstoppable resilience, and that strength is woven into every part of her life - from creating The Balm Box to standing in line (twice!) to see the Mona Lisa with her girlfriends in Paris, joking, “Let’s see the HO and then get a cocktail.” Today, we’ll dive deep into Liz’s incredible journey: how she overcame unimaginable challenges, turned pain into purpose, and continues to inspire others. Get ready for a mix of wisdom, wit, and pure inspiration as we welcome Liz Benditt to the Rule 42 podcast.

    2024/12/05

Today, we’re honored to share the incredible journey of Susie Bell - a woman who has faced unimaginable challenges and come out stronger, wiser, and more determined to live life unapologetically.

Susie’s story begins in a devout Mormon household, rooted in faith and tradition. She married her high school sweetheart at just 20 years old, and together they built a life in Las Vegas, raising six children and weathering unimaginable heartbreak, including the loss of her youngest child at only five weeks old.

For years, Susie was the epitome of dedication - to her family, her church, and her career as a nurse. But when her world began to crumble during the opioid epidemic, Susie turned to an unexpected outlet: bodybuilding. What started as a distraction quickly became a passion, propelling her to national stages and magazine covers.

But life threw even more at Susie. A failing marriage, an affair, divorce, excommunication from her church, bankruptcy, and foreclosure could have easily broken her. Instead, Susie rebuilt herself from the ground up, earning her nurse practitioner degree, opening her own practice, and redefining what it means to live authentically.

Today, Susie’s journey is far from over. She’s faced heartbreak, setbacks, and reinvention in the dating world, all while learning what it means to truly be herself. Her story is one of resilience, self-discovery, and living life on her own terms.

Kim’s background is as diverse as it is impressive, with a history in performing arts that spans dance, theater, film, and publishing.
