  • Military Veterans Festival Success

    The Veterans Festival on Friday 24 January was a big success says Chris Paige, Chairman of Petersfield's Royal British Legion.

    Organsied by the RBL, the office of Damian Hinds MP and East Hants District Council, it provided information. presentations and advice on everything medical, sight loss, pensions and an invitation to join a brass band!

  • Speedwatch volunteers work with police for safety around schools
    2025/01/26

    Local Speedwatch is a group of volunteers who, with police support, raise awareness with drivers about speed limits.

    The Group met at the Clavio Lounge on Saturday 25 January, and coordinator Julie Butler spoke about progress on this community-based campaign to keep roads safe for children and older people.

    Despite being a very serious topic, the atmosphere was welcoming and the team find working together to be very pleasurable

    Mike Waddington spoke to volunteers Gavin, Scott and John, Police Community Support Officers Loz and Tanya who support the group, and coordinator, Julie Butler.

    Speedwatch remind drivers of speed limits and police warnings can be issued to remind speeding drivers about paying attention to speed limits.

    Amongst the stands at the Petersfield Veterans Festival on Friday 24 January twas one about the Strange Old Things Mobile Museum, bringing history alive with the stories behind everyday objects. It's aimed people who cant always get to a museum

  • Have you heard of Tubs2Pubs, it something that we can all help with!

    After the Festive season, we all find ourselves left with empty confectionary and biscuit tubs. Here an idea introduced by the Greene King pub chain to encourage people to recycle and help raise money for Macmillan Cancer.

    Local postman Steve Wyatt is co-ordinating here in the Petersphere. All you have to do is just drop them in the Calling Office, just off of the Square.

  • Get out those knitting needles and click away to support Petersfield’s Poppy appeal

    There will be a waterfall of poppies to celebrate the 80th anniversary marking the end of world war two.

    But this can’t be done without your help. If you can knit or crochet, why not support this appeal and knit poppies for Remembrance Sunday. Can’t knit? Well come along and help with the display.

  • Winton House hosted yet another successful Christmas Present Exchange
    2025/01/24

    There was an orderly queue waiting in anticipation for the doors of Winton House to open last Saturday morning (18th January).

    Although the numbers of people participating was lower this year, it was a good sign that people may not have brought so many gifts just for the sake of it.

  • The Free Shop has a record year
    2025/01/24

    The Free Shop, at The Hub by Petersfield Rail Station, gives away food from all the supermarkets rather than have it go to landfill.

    33 tons of food were given to 9,000 visitors last year.

    They also supply school uniforms.

    Mike Waddington spoke to Lucy Lomax, the Project Manager and Jen, one of the volunteers, gave him a tour of the produce freely available; good for the environment and for social inclusion.
