"Child Sexual Exploitation", "Child Grooming" and "Asian Grooming Gangs" are all terms which, in the last couple of weeks, have been thrust back into the public consciousness as the Defacto Vice-President of the United States has decided it would be an effective stick with which to beat the Prime Minister Kier Starmer and his Labour government.

His intervention has prompted me to delay the launch of the new series of Peak True Crime while I worked on this response to his dangerous comments.

In this episode, I tell the story of Operation Retriever; the investigation by Derbyshire Constabulary into child grooming in the city.

When the body of elderly man is found lay out on the side of a footpath on the Northern most tip of the Peak District, Greater Manchester Police begin an investigation that will take them across the globe.

With nothing to identify who he is, the questions surrounding the man dubbed by the media "The Man on The Moor" is an investigation which combines cutting edge science alongside old fashioned and dogged police work to not only give the man a name, but also solve the mystery of how he met his death.

Old Whittington, 2020

When paramedics arrived at the home of Shannon Marsden and her boyfriend Stephan Boden in the early hours of Christmas Day 2020, it wasn't just the squalor of the place that shocked them. Initial reports suggested that their son, 10 month old Finley Boden, was struggling for breath; possibly as a result of a covid-19 infection.

The reality of his situation however became clear almost instantly. A victim of violence and neglect, how could a child who should have been one of the most protected in the county been allowed to die in such tragic circumstances?
