This is a sampling of the topics which we will be discussing: Gender Dysphoria Gender Diversity, Gender Incongruence, Gender Non-Conformity and Gender Fluidity Gender Attribution (self-identification) Gender Affirmation Biological Aspects and Influence Behavioral Health Considerations Gender Minority Stress Trauma Informed Care Counseling for Gender Affirmation Counseling for Cross-Sex Hormone Therapy Family and Societal Issues Paradoxes of Gender – Podcast Episode 23.07 will be available 10 July 2023 Paradoxes of Gender Podcasts:The Paradoxes of Gender Podcasts are Designed to Deliver Professional Development Educational Programs for the LGBTQ+ Medical & Behavioral Healthcare Providers who provide Medical & Behavioral Healthcare Services to Transgender, Gender Diverse, Gender Non-Conforming, Gender Incongruent and Non-Binary Individuals. Prepared & Presented by: Dr. Diana Sorrentino, Ph.D. Social-Psychologist & Behavioral Analyst Delivering comprehensive Medical or Behavioral Healthcare Services as a component of your practice on behalf of Transgender (TG), Gender Diverse (GD) Individuals and members of the LGBTQ+ Community may at times prove to be a little challenging. The challenges you may experience have historically been caused by a lack of specialized medical or behavioral health training you received in preparation for your career and the care you will be providing for Transgender and Gender Diverse patients. This understanding was underscored and reinforced by a 2011 study, reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the medical schools, on average, only provide Five (5) hours of academic or clinical instruction on LGBTQ+ healthcare requirements. In the absence of specialized training; time is required to acquire first-hand real-world knowledge and experience with the diverse challenges, needs and experiences these individuals present and what they are confronted with as they live their lives in their Self-Attributed Non-Conforming Gender roles. The Medical & Behavioral Healthcare professionals I work with strive to deliver the most appropriate and compassionate care for these patients. However; in the absence of specialized training, along with acquired experience and knowledge, or that of being a Transgender or Gender Diverse Stakeholder, one might not completely understand the issues and experiences the individual is facing as well as to unknowingly impose their own preconceived or unconscious biases or limitations while providing care. My professional and personal experiences aside; I have been researching & studying Gender Dysphoria, Gender Incongruence, Transgender & Gender Diverse and Non-Binary issues, needs and history, as well as working with medical and behavioral healthcare providers alongside members of the LGBTQ+ community, for over 33years. This Series of Podcasts, Paradoxes of Gender, has been specifically designed and structured for the clinical, educational and informational needs of the medical and behavioral healthcare providers serving this community. Transgender, Gender Diverse, Gender Non-Conforming, Gender Incongruent & Non-Binary individuals, their families, friends, schools, employers and social-networks will also benefit from the content of these Podcasts in-spite of the fact that the detailed medical and psychological content of these programs focuses on the continuing educational needs and requirements of the medical or behavioral healthcare professional. Knowledge is essential to counteract the negative publicity and the political hyperbole disseminated by individuals with no understanding of the history and underlying biological factors influencing gender non-conformity.
