  • Portland’s Haunting Music Hall - The Crystal Ballroom
    2025/06/10
This week, we head to Portland’s Crystal Ballroom, the haunted concert venue that inspired the eclectic, art-filled vibes of the Crystal Hotel. Owned today by McMenamins, this iconic building has been everything from a debutante’s playground to a psychedelic rock stage—and it has the ghost stories to prove it.

Originally opened in 1914 as Cotillion Hall, the Crystal Ballroom has seen it all: flapper-era scandals, jazz-fueled controversies, Lola Baldwin’s crusade to shut it down (yep, that Lola—the first female police officer in the U.S.), and the unstoppable spirit of Montrose Ringler, who once moved the party onto a boat to dodge a shutdowns. Seriously.

We’ll walk you through the building’s many lives—from hosting acts like Tina Turner, James Brown, and the Grateful Dead, to falling into disrepair and being resurrected by McMenamins in 1997. Today, it’s famous for its floating dance floor (one of the last in the country!), legendary concerts, and—oh yes—its resident spirits. 👻

  • Truly Twisted - The Murder of Justine Vanderschoot
    2025/06/06
We’re taking a short break and using this time to amplify the voices of other creators we love in the true crime space. While we’re enjoying our summer hiatus, we’ve got something dark and compelling to keep your earbuds company. We're dropping an episode from Truly Twisted, a gripping true crime podcast hosted by Alecia Watson of Twisted & Uncorked that explores the deeply disturbing cases that haunt communities long after headlines fade.

In Episode 4, the story takes us to Northern California, where 17-year-old Justine Vanderschoot vanished shortly after starting her senior year of high school. At first, it seemed like a runaway case—but friends and family knew something was terribly wrong. As the investigation unfolded, a chilling story of betrayal, jealousy, and premeditated violence began to surface. Justine’s case highlights the red flags of abusive teenage relationships and the devastating consequences that can follow when they go unchecked.

Check out Truly Twisted wherever you get your podcasts, and follow the show to support more indie creators telling these important stories.

  • Hypno Nightmare Fuel - The Allagash Abductions
    2025/06/03
Summertime is upon us! We’ve penciled in some time to sip rosé and soak up the sunshine so we’ll be sprinkling in some periodic breaks from our own content creations. Of course, we’d never leave you high and dry. While we’re taking a little summer break, we’re dropping an episode from a podcast we absolutely love—Twisted & Uncorked! If you're into conspiracy theories, creepy encounters, and a dash of dark humor, you’re going to want to hit play on this one.

In this episode, Sierra takes us deep into one of the most bizarre and hotly debated UFO cases in U.S. history: The Allagash Abductions. Back in 1976, four college friends set out on a peaceful canoe trip through the remote wilderness of Maine. What began as a relaxing getaway quickly spiraled into a waking nightmare—complete with a beam of light, missing time, and shared memories of alien abduction uncovered through hypnosis. From hypnotic regression sessions to government cover-up theories, this story has it all: mystery, terror, and lingering questions that might just keep you up tonight. (Yes, the nightmares are real.)

Listen now and check out more of Twisted & Uncorked wherever you get your podcasts! If you're new here, be sure to follow PNW Haunts & Homicides for your weekly dose of haunted history, true crime, and all things weird from the Pacific Northwest & beyond.
