  • Samurai 1 Musashi Miyamoto (1954) - Vintage Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 647 - 5 Rings
    2025/04/25

Spencer and Josh are continuing the Samurai journey, this time with the first movie in the Samurai Trilogy. Musashi Miyamoto 1954 directed by Hiroshi Inagaki, starring Toshiro Mifune, and based off the book Musashi by Eji Yoshikawa. A film series I have always wanted to watch along with the Book of the 5 Rings. Miyamoto's own training manual of philosophy and life.

This here is the origin story of how a man named Takezo had to work his way up to the dream of becoming the great Samurai, Miyamoto Musashi. He gets himself wrapped up in the Battle of Sekigahara in the lowest position of digging trenches and doing grunt work. Though he survives, he ends up being betrayed by his best friend and hometown, forcing him to fight for his survival using nothing more than a wooden sword. But through it all, a monk and a lady named Otsu help him on a training journey of 3 years to turn the wild boy into a samurai man! I'm totally looking forward to seeing where the sequels go from here.

  • The Rock (1996) Rewind Review - OMO Presents Via VHS Podcast
    2025/04/23

Wes and Spencer are going back to the 90s to the era of BAYHEM!!! 1996's Michael Bay classic, The Rock. Action packed to the max with so many iconic scenes. Featuring a giant cast of fantastic characters played by Sean Connery, Ed Harris, Nicholas Cage, and Micheal Biehn just to name a few.

The film is done in that Die Hard style where a bunch of ex military guys take over Alcatraz Prison and hold San Francisco hostage with chemical weapons. It's up to a team of Navy Seals plus a bomb expert (Cage) and one of the only con's to ever escape The Rock (Connery). We all know that Clint Eastwood was able to do it too. And who knows, Sean Connery's character may actually be James Bond 007 in this flick. We go over that theory and give our thoughts on the different actions that may lead one into thinking that.

No matter what, this film is just pure fun, even if slightly goofy at times. If you like larger than life Hollywood movies of the past, filled with all the great military action and explosions you would expect from a movie produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, well then you are in for a treat!

Bringing you another out of the vault, off the rarity's album episode of Via VHS on OMO Presents with a classic, rewind review. Join us as we break it all down in this spoiler-filled discussion! • 13 Assassins (2010) Modern Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 646
    2025/04/21

Spencer and Josh are going back to the end of the Edo Period in Japan with the 2010 samurai movie, 13 Assassins. Directed by Takashi Miike and a remake of the 1963 movie by Eiichi Kudo of the same name. This movie gets brutal and starts off with a slow burn build up that then ends in a 45 minute long katana swinging action scene. The 13 warriors literally take on an army of over 200 soldiers. Really reminds me a lot like 300, Seven Samurai, and the Magnificent 7. With great cinematography and real world lighting to take you back to 1844. A totally excellent film.

  • Resident Evil Revelations - Survival Horror Review - Silent Evil Podcast 7
    2025/04/17

Spencer and Cameron are going back to 2012 and playing through Resident Evil Revelations. Initially released as a Nintendo 3DS exclusive game and now you can play it on just about any modern system since then. A game that fuses the classic survival horror game play of the old RE games with the modern controls and over the shoulder style of RE 4 and 5. Which in our opinion, is a perfect combo of fun.

This game also utilized the episode style that plays out like a thriller TV show with the perfect chapter balance of gameplay. Featuring our two original main characters, Jill Valentine, and Chris Redfield. And the perfect creepy backdrop of an abandoned cruise liner ship. There is so much to love in this game that has always just flown under the radar as just a spin off of the main series. But really, this game is probably the most Resident Evil of all the games in this era. If that wasn't enough, The Raid mode (which is like the new mercenaries) is a ton of good times with a great amount of replay ability and co-op multiplayer too.

So, come join us for the run through and let us know your thoughts on the game, survival horror titles, and what we should play next.

Also, check out both of our complete playthroughs of the game with our own individual let's play videos.

    Plot Overview

Resident Evil: Revelations follows series veterans Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield as they uncover a conspiracy involving a bioterrorist group called Veltro, which threatens to infect the oceans with a deadly virus known as T-Abyss. Set between Resident Evil 4 and 5, the story primarily takes place on the derelict cruise ship Queen Zenobia, where Jill and her partner Parker Luciani search for Chris, only to get caught in a deeper mystery involving betrayal, government secrets, and the aftermath of a bioterror attack on a floating city. The game unfolds with twists and flashbacks, gradually revealing the true culprits and motives behind the viral outbreak.

Silent Evil is Spencer Scott Holmes and Cameron Curbelo.

  • Mortal Kombat Legends Cage Match (2023) Gaming Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 644
    2025/04/14

Spencer and Dave are continuing their crusade through the Warner Bros. Animated Mortal Kombat Legends movies. This time, they are tackling the 80s fueled prequel to the original Mortal Kombat, Cage Match. The 4th movie in the collection. Starring good ole Johnny Cage in his very own origin story. A classic blend of action movie nostalgia, great tunes that could rival a Rocky movie, and some real deep cut characters all from Mortal Kombat Sub Zero Mythologies of all places.

The story is great, the humor hits right, and it keeps all the great MK action that one would expect in full destruction! If you love that 80s look and feel of Scarface, GTA Vice City, and any Martial Arts training montage. You will fit right in! If not... Well maybe it's just too retro and old school for you. This here might be the best of all the Mortal Kombat films and sadly could be the last for a while in the WB Animated line. There was supposed to be a Kitana one next that sadly might not see the light of day. Total bummer, but here's hoping WB comes to their senses.

  • Mortal Kombat Legends Snow Blind (2022) - Gaming Cinema Review Old Man Orange Podcast 642
    2025/04/09

Spencer and Dave are continuing their Mortal Kombat Legends adventure. This time it's the 3rd animated film from Warner Bros Animation, Snow Blind. A MK Else world story that stars Kenshi, the blind swordsman and takes place in a post apocalyptic world ruled by King Kano. As well as an aging Sub Zero who has given up the life of fighting for farming, peace, and redemption only to be pulled back in once more. Similar to Clint Eastwood's The Unforgiven or for a more modern reference, Old Man Logan of Xmen.

So, an alternative path from the first two films but also might be the greatest of them so far. The story is excellent, featuring a wide range of great characters and of course the violence only gets more intense! With a new animation look as well. Join us for the journey!

  • Tombstone (1993) Vintage Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 643
    2025/04/09

Spencer and Josh are going back to 1993 and talking all about the western film, Tombstone. The late 80s and early 90s were a great resurgence for the western movie. With flicks like Young Guns, The Unforgiven, Back to the Future Part 3, Wyatt Earp, Badgirls, and of course good ole Tombstone.

Staring Kurt Russel and Val Kilmer (RIP), which may be Val's all time most iconic role. He steals every scene he is in with his ultra iconic version of Doc Holiday. If those 2 were not enough this movie is filled to the brim with actors like Sam Elliot, Bill Paxton, Dana Delany, Powers Boothe, Michael Biehn, Charlton Heston, Michael Rooker, Frank Stallone, Thomas Haden Church, and Billy Bob Thorton. Just to name a few. I literally sometimes forget all the great actors that show up in this flick each time I watch it. Beyond that it's directed by George P. Cosmatos who also made Rambo First Blood Part 2 and Cobra.

This movie is always so much fun and Hollywood is firing on all cylinders. Which still always sparks the question, which Wyatt Earp film is the best? Tombstone or Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp from the following year? Just a great time for epic westerns.

    Plot Overview

Tombstone (1993) is a Western film that dramatizes the legendary events surrounding Wyatt Earp, his brothers, and Doc Holliday in the lawless town of Tombstone, Arizona during the late 1800s. After retiring from law enforcement, Wyatt Earp hopes to settle down peacefully, but tensions with a ruthless gang known as the Cowboys escalate into violence. The film climaxes with the iconic Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and its aftermath, as Earp and Holliday embark on a vengeful quest for justice. With a star-studded cast including Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp and Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday, the movie blends gritty action, personal drama, and legendary showdowns into a classic Western tale.
