  • Mortal Kombat Legends Cage Match (2023) Gaming Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 644
    2025/04/14

Spencer and Dave are continuing their crusade through the Warner Bros. Animated Mortal Kombat Legends movies. This time, they are tackling the 80s fueled prequel to the original Mortal Kombat, Cage Match. The 4th movie in the collection. Starring good ole Johnny Cage in his very own origin story. A classic blend of action movie nostalgia, great tunes that could rival a Rocky movie, and some real deep cut characters all from Mortal Kombat Sub Zero Mythologies of all places.

The story is great, the humor hits right, and it keeps all the great MK action that one would expect in full destruction! If you love that 80s look and feel of Scarface, GTA Vice City, and any Martial Arts training montage. You will fit right in! If not... Well maybe it's just too retro and old school for you. This here might be the best of all the Mortal Kombat films and sadly could be the last for a while in the WB Animated line. There was supposed to be a Kitana one next that sadly might not see the light of day. Total bummer, but here's hoping WB comes to their senses.

  • Mortal Kombat Legends Snow Blind (2022) - Gaming Cinema Review Old Man Orange Podcast 642
    2025/04/09

Spencer and Dave are continuing their Mortal Kombat Legends adventure. This time it's the 3rd animated film from Warner Bros Animation, Snow Blind. A MK Else world story that stars Kenshi, the blind swordsman and takes place in a post apocalyptic world ruled by King Kano. As well as an aging Sub Zero who has given up the life of fighting for farming, peace, and redemption only to be pulled back in once more. Similar to Clint Eastwood's The Unforgiven or for a more modern reference, Old Man Logan of Xmen.

So, an alternative path from the first two films but also might be the greatest of them so far. The story is excellent, featuring a wide range of great characters and of course the violence only gets more intense! With a new animation look as well. Join us for the journey!

  • Tombstone (1993) Vintage Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 643
    2025/04/09

Spencer and Josh are going back to 1993 and talking all about the western film, Tombstone. The late 80s and early 90s were a great resurgence for the western movie. With flicks like Young Guns, The Unforgiven, Back to the Future Part 3, Wyatt Earp, Badgirls, and of course good ole Tombstone.

Staring Kurt Russel and Val Kilmer (RIP), which may be Val's all time most iconic role. He steals every scene he is in with his ultra iconic version of Doc Holiday. If those 2 were not enough this movie is filled to the brim with actors like Sam Elliot, Bill Paxton, Dana Delany, Powers Boothe, Michael Biehn, Charlton Heston, Michael Rooker, Frank Stallone, Thomas Haden Church, and Billy Bob Thorton. Just to name a few. I literally sometimes forget all the great actors that show up in this flick each time I watch it. Beyond that it's directed by George P. Cosmatos who also made Rambo First Blood Part 2 and Cobra.

This movie is always so much fun and Hollywood is firing on all cylinders. Which still always sparks the question, which Wyatt Earp film is the best? Tombstone or Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp from the following year? Just a great time for epic westerns.

    Plot Overview

Tombstone (1993) is a Western film that dramatizes the legendary events surrounding Wyatt Earp, his brothers, and Doc Holliday in the lawless town of Tombstone, Arizona during the late 1800s. After retiring from law enforcement, Wyatt Earp hopes to settle down peacefully, but tensions with a ruthless gang known as the Cowboys escalate into violence. The film climaxes with the iconic Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and its aftermath, as Earp and Holliday embark on a vengeful quest for justice. With a star-studded cast including Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp and Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday, the movie blends gritty action, personal drama, and legendary showdowns into a classic Western tale.

  • Enemy at the Gates 2001 Modern Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 641
    2025/04/06

Spencer and Josh are going all the way back to 2001 and rewatching the classic Stalingrad, sniper battle war flick, Enemy at the Gates. A resonance of very well-made war films came out in this time period. The boom started off with Saving Private Ryan and then all kinds of other films and video games. Like Pearl Harbor, Medal of Honor, We Were Soldiers, Call of Duty, and of course Enemy at the Gates. Which may be one of the top tier choices, besides the odd British accents in the film for the Russian soldiers.

We also end up reminiscing about High School stories because that was one of the places we first saw this film was when a teacher brough in Enemy at the Gates on VHS when it came out to show the class as part of WW2 and Soviet History. This leads into all kinds of other goofy shenanigans adventures too. As well as when Josh first saw this movie on a Cruise ship, when that was a thing. Good times.

Enemy at the Gates (2001) is a war drama set during the Battle of Stalingrad in World War II. It follows the story of Vasily Zaitsev, a Soviet sniper whose deadly precision makes him a symbol of hope for the Russian people. As his legend grows, the Germans send Major König, their own top marksman, to eliminate him, leading to a tense and psychological game of cat-and-mouse between the two snipers. Amid the chaos of war, Vasily also navigates a complex relationship with a fellow soldier and love interest, Tania. The film explores themes of heroism, propaganda, and the human cost of war.

  • Conscript - A WW1 Survival Horror Review - Silent Evil Podcast 6
    2025/04/04

Cameron and Spencer are talking all about the indie survival horror video game, Conscript from 2024. With a story backdrop of World War 1 in the trenches. Mixing the gameplay of Resident Evil and the original top-down view, Metal Gear games. Throw in just a taste of Silent Hill too. Conscript offers an experience both classic and totally fresh all at the same time. It's also quite the endeavor for an indie title of generally just one main creator. Both in quality and length too. Though this journey totally delivers all the way through. We go through the whole game in a podcast review.

We played the game on Steam and Nintendo Switch but you can literally grab it on any console including PlayStation and Xbox as well.

    Game Overview

"Conscript" is a survival horror video game set during the Battle of Verdun in World War I. Players assume the role of André, a French soldier searching for his missing brother, Pierre, amid the chaos of war. The game emphasizes the grim realities of trench warfare, requiring players to navigate complex trench systems, scavenge limited supplies, and solve puzzles to survive. Unlike other horror games, "Conscript" does not incorporate supernatural elements; instead, it focuses on the genuine horrors of war, with enemy soldiers as the primary antagonists.

The gameplay is reminiscent of classic survival horror titles, featuring top-down perspectives, resource management, and deliberate combat mechanics. Players must carefully manage ammunition and health supplies, and melee weapons degrade with use, adding to the challenge. The game also includes a dodge roll that consumes stamina, emphasizing strategic movement during encounters.

"Conscript" offers a poignant portrayal of World War I, highlighting the psychological and physical toll on soldiers. The narrative explores themes of survival, brotherhood, and the senselessness of war, providing players with a harrowing yet immersive experience.

So, come join us for the run through and let us know your thoughts on the game, survival horror titles, and what we should play next.

  • Mortal Kombat Legends Battle of the Realms 2021 - Gaming Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 639
    2025/03/31

Spencer and Dave are talking all about the 2nd Warner Bros Animated Mortal Kombat Legends movie, Battle of the Realms on the Old Man Orange Podcast for a Gaming Cinema Review Episode. Like an alternative version of the Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 storyline and infused with some MK 4 and 10 elements. Yet it is still making a lot of its own story path in the process. The action is more brutal than ever, the stakes are higher, and there's a ton more great characters thrown in the mix. Plus, Raiden will always somehow make some mistakes along the way.

    Plot Overview

Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms” follows the aftermath of the first tournament, where Earth’s champions, led by Raiden, Liu Kang, and Sonya Blade, prepare for an impending invasion by Shao Kahn, the tyrannical emperor of Outworld. As Kahn gathers his forces and allies, including Shang Tsung, the heroes embark on a perilous journey to secure support from other realms like Edenia and the Netherrealm. The film culminates in a climactic battle for Earthrealm, showcasing intense confrontations and significant sacrifices that ultimately lead to a hard-won victory, setting the stage for future conflicts and adventures in the Mortal Kombat universe.
