  • Mortal Kombat Legends Battle of the Realms 2021 - Gaming Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 639
    2025/03/31

Spencer and Dave are talking all about the 2nd Warner Bros Animated Mortal Kombat Legends movie, Battle of the Realms on the Old Man Orange Podcast for a Gaming Cinema Review Episode. Like an alternative version of the Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 storyline and infused with some MK 4 and 10 elements. Yet it is still making a lot of its own story path in the process. The action is more brutal than ever, the stakes are higher, and there's a ton more great characters thrown in the mix. Plus, Raiden will always somehow make some mistakes along the way.

    Plot Overview

Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms” follows the aftermath of the first tournament, where Earth’s champions, led by Raiden, Liu Kang, and Sonya Blade, prepare for an impending invasion by Shao Kahn, the tyrannical emperor of Outworld. As Kahn gathers his forces and allies, including Shang Tsung, the heroes embark on a perilous journey to secure support from other realms like Edenia and the Netherrealm. The film culminates in a climactic battle for Earthrealm, showcasing intense confrontations and significant sacrifices that ultimately lead to a hard-won victory, setting the stage for future conflicts and adventures in the Mortal Kombat universe.

  • Mortal Kombat Legends Scorpions Revenge (2020) Gaming Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 638
    2025/03/24

Dave and Spencer are going back a few years to review the start of the WB animated movies of Mortal Kombat. Legends Scorpion's Revenge is a great start off point to get anyone into the Mortal Kombat lore. Another origin story similar to the original Mortal Kombat game and movie, along with MK9 too. But it's one of those stories that I know we never get tired off and this one definitely adds some new elements to the mix as well. Bringing in the core roster of MK1 and 2 along with some other cool cameos too. With a little bit of MK4 elements too. And though it is sold as a Scorpion movie, the whole roster of the heroes of light get to shine in this tale.

With a copious amount of good gore and violence to be had along with a fantastic and faithful adaptation delivered in the grand animation style of WB's DCU movies. This may be the ultimate movie telling of the MK story.

    Plot Overview:

The movie starts with Hanzo Hasashi, the leader of the Shirai Ryu clan, living peacefully with his family. However, the Lin Kuei, led by Sub-Zero, attacks and massacres the entire clan, including Hanzo’s wife and son. Hanzo is also killed but ends up in the Netherrealm, where he makes a deal with the sorcerer Quan Chi to return and seek revenge. He is resurrected as Scorpion, a vengeful warrior consumed by rage.

Meanwhile, Lord Raiden gathers Earthrealm’s champions—Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, and Johnny Cage—to compete in the Mortal Kombat tournament, which will determine the fate of their realm. They travel to Shang Tsung’s island, where they must battle against the forces of Outworld, including Shang Tsung’s warriors, led by Goro.

In this episode of the Silent Evil Podcast, Cameron and Spencer dive deep into Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, the 2001 survival horror classic that blends Lovecraftian terror with intense gameplay. Alone in the Dark created the survival horror genre we know today but stepped out early. Then Resident Evil, Parasite Eve and Silent Hill pushed the genre forward into brand new directions. So, the OG granddaddy thought it was finally time to make the return with a reboot of the series. Even if it was a little late to the party.

We go into the full on retro review of the whole modern experience. A game that has always been one of those must plays of classic horror games, that we sadly have never gotten fully into. Until now! Join us as we explore its chilling atmosphere, interesting story, and how it compares to other horror staples like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

Or is it a close but no cigar experience? Stop on by the podcast and have a listen to the pros and cons we endured in this classic experience.

    🔥 Topics Covered:

    ✅ Story and Characters Breakdown

✅ Gameplay Mechanics and Survival Horror Elements

✅ Visuals, Sound Design, and Scares

Originally appearing on Sony PlayStation and Sega Dreamcast. Now you can play it on PC via Steam and GOG along with PS5 with the virtual console.

    Plot-

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare's story follows two protagonists, Edward Carnby and Aline Cedrac, who investigate the mysterious Shadow Island after the murder of Carnby's best friend, Charles Fiske.

The game offers two distinct storylines depending on the character you choose:

Edward Carnby's Story focuses on action and combat. Carnby is a paranormal investigator seeking revenge and answers regarding his friend's death. His path involves battling numerous shadowy creatures and uncovering the island's dark secrets.

Aline Cedrac's Story emphasizes puzzle-solving and exploration. Aline is a university professor and expert in ancient languages. She’s drawn to the island due to its links to her research — and a mysterious connection to her own past.

Both characters discover that the island is infested with monstrous beings called Creatures of Darkness, controlled by an ancient evil force. The game's plot weaves together elements of Lovecraftian horror, occult mysteries, and survival challenges. The protagonists must uncover the truth about Shadow Island, its cursed inhabitants, and a powerful artifact known as the Tablets of Light, which can banish the encroaching darkness.

  • Coffin Joe 3 Embodiment of Evil (2008) Modern Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 637
    2025/03/16

Dave and Spencer finally finish off the Coffin Joe Trilogy with the final instalment of the Brazilian horror series with the 2008 film, Embodiment of Evil. Jose Mojica Marins (Coffin Joe and the filmmaker of these movies) defiantly looked at the horror film resurgence of the 2000s with the torture like flicks of Hostel and Saw along with the remakes/sequels like Hills Have Eyes, Halloween, and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and thought this is the perfect time for Coffin Joe to finally return and show the kids who's boss. It really continues on from part 1 and 2, so make sure you catch up on those. But this one is really an interesting ride of bizarre scenes, both hilarious and disturbing all at the same time. While retaining the classic Joe formula.

What is your favorite movie out of the whole trilogy???

    Plot Overview

Embodiment of Evil (2008) is a Brazilian horror film directed by José Mojica Marins. It is the final installment in the Coffin Joe trilogy, following At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul (1964) and This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse (1967).

The film follows Coffin Joe (Zé do Caixão), a sadistic undertaker obsessed with finding the "perfect woman" to bear his superior offspring. After serving a 40-year prison sentence for his past crimes, Coffin Joe is released back into society. Unrepentant and still obsessed with his twisted goal, he resumes his reign of terror. With the help of loyal followers, he kidnaps and tortures women to test their physical and mental strength in his pursuit of the ideal mother for his child.

The film blends graphic violence, psychological horror, and social commentary. It explores themes of obsession, atheism, and the dark side of human nature, with Coffin Joe’s philosophical musings playing a significant role. The movie is known for its extreme gore and unsettling atmosphere, earning its place as a standout in Brazilian horror cinema.

  • 13 Hours The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi - Modern Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 635
    2025/03/11

Josh and Spencer are talking all about the Michael Bay war film, 13 Hours The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi from 2016 in a Modern Cinema Review on Old Man Orange Podcast 635. A movie with mixed views from critics but loved by many veterans. Josh has seen it multiple times but it's a first watch for Spencer who has had it sitting in the Blu Ray collection for quite some time with all the good intentions of finally getting around to watching it.

13 Hours plays out a real life event of six Annex Security Team members have to fight and defend the American Diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya from a constant wave of attacks on September 11, 2012. With no help from the government on their situation. Movie-wise, it plays out a lot like a modern day, Assault on Precinct 13 (The John Carpenter film) or for an even older reference, Rio Bravo with John Wayne and Dean Martin. Both excellent films worth pairing with 13 Hours.

How does this movie stack up with other Michael Bay films?

Mega Man Upon a Star OVA Vintage Anime Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 634

Join us on Old Man Orange Podcast as we dive into the Mega Man Upon a Star OVA! This strange 90s anime takes the Blue Bomber on a wild ride through Japan with really fantastic animation, and great battle scenes that look fantastic in a trailer! That got us pumped! But then it's got a goofy edutainment PSA vibe going throughout the whole Rockman and Dr. Wily conflict that stops all the time to teach kids about Japanese culture, holidays, and geography. While it still is delivering that retro Mega Man action we love. It's an interesting choice style to say the least. Especially with Rush the Dog always asking goofy questions about how America and Japan are different while they are mid action. But at least all the classic characters are there, including Roll, Proto Man, and Dr. Light. Then it's also a promo similar to the movie The Wizard but for the NES model 2 with the dogbone controller and Mega Man 5.

We break down the animation, story, and all the weird, wacky, and wonderful moments from this vintage OVA. Is it a hidden gem or just a nostalgic oddity? Tune in and find out!
