  • Some Words of Wisdom from Pete and Jack
    2025/05/08
All of us admire tech companies for the products and services they create that make our lives better, and we marvel at their celebrity CEOs who create a company from nothing. While tech company leaders should be highly regarded for what they've achieved, I don't think there's much to learn or apply from their companies to our own. Healthcare service practices are people-oriented, service-driven businesses that are deeply personal and intimate in nature. They're "execution businesses" at their core, so I figured it might be better to share some timeless wisdom from two thought leaders who were instrumental in shaping my early leadership development, the late Jack Welch (former Chairman & CEO of GE) and the late Peter Drucker (former Dean of the USC Business School). • Leadership in Times of Uncertainty
    2025/04/24
This episode is based on current events of the past two weeks. As business leaders and business owners, you need to embrace the challenges ahead and communicate clearly with your team. I'll share my own personal example of leading a team in the NY/NJ market during what became the Global Financial Crisis. None of us know how this is going to play out, but it's up to each of us to create some level of certainty for our teams.

  • The Choice We Make & the Freedom We Have
    2025/04/17
So many of you in this audience enter the world of business entrepreneurship through the world of medicine first. While this is completely understandable, I think too many lose sight of the fact that being an entrepreneur is actually a choice we make. Choosing to be an entrepreneur carries with it a tremendous weight in competitive markets, and healthcare services is definitely one. That being said, there are plenty of alternatives - many of which will immediately compromise the freedoms you've mostly forgotten that you have. I hope this episode is a "re-grounding" of sorts and a dose of optimism during your times of trial. Got questions? I've got answers! • Your Most Valuable Commodity & Your Most Valuable Asset
    2025/04/10
We're all hopefully evolving both as entrepreneurs and as leaders, so it's important to understand what makes us effective at both. While we all have a variety of assets that make us who we are, there's one that's most important for us in each department. Equally, there's a currency (or a commodity) that can be useful to becoming more effective at what we do. I'll slice and dice both in this episode to give you a few things to consider as your career unfolds. Enjoy!

  • Surprise and Delight!
    2025/04/03
I've spoken on several different occasions and on numerous podcasts about my underlying fear that we all run the risk of becoming commoditized if we don't take a more proactive approach to enhancing the patient experience in our practices. The bar is low because your competition is doing absolutely nothing in this area, so even small things can create a big impact. In this episode, I tell the story of my favorite winery sending me a commemorative bottle of wine for the launch of Next Level Executive - a gesture I never expected that brought tears to my eyes. This story is relatable to every single one of us, so give my insights some thought as they relate to your business. You can learn more about Aonair winery here: https://www.aonairwine.com/ And you can learn more about Reverie winery here: https://www.reveriewine.com/ If you're planning a trip to Napa, please let me know and I'd be happy to connect you to Grant Long and Austin Robertson.
