UFC 317 kicked ass and delivered a Fight of the Year candidate, a welcome to Lightweight moment for one of the UFC's biggest stars, set up the next chapter of the Flyweight division and on the bad side was a terrible night of commentary.

2 Title Fights and a solid supporting cast. UFC 317 promises a lot of action even the title fights are a bit odd given the title shot criteria at play. But I'm looking for to the 155 climb of Ilia Topuria and of course Charles Oliveira is violence and despite the Dana White's takes, KKF vs Pantonja 1 was fire.

The UFC's offering in Baku ending on a flat note with a rough main event but the main card mostly delivered solid action while the undercard was what it was.

The UFC heads to a new market with Baku in Azerbijan and they have a solid main card here. Meaningful well matched fights. The Undercard isn't the strongest but it doesn't really dampen my interest in the card.

The Hill/Roundtree fight is a clash of the natural fighter instincts (and the physical tools to violently apply those instincts) vs technique and coaching.

UFC Atlanta is in the rearview mirror and it's a card that wasn't very good but hey we got to see Kamaru Usman win, Edmen Shahbazyan won in a manner that speaks to progress though not excitement and more Cody Brundrage weirdness.

I hate to be negative like this because the bookings on this card largely make sense, the name value is solid, the general fighter caliber is fine but the card is pretty bad.

This card suffers from a lot of long odds (7 favorites of more than -400). It suffers from 2 title fights that are justifiable but not interesting because Women's Bantamweight is well a mess and Sean O'Malley doesn't seem to have taken the right lessons from losing to Merab Dvalishvili and is getting a rematch anyways. Sucks the life out of the card.

Bright side welcome to the UFC Patchy Mix. Joshua Van is super fun. And Luque/Holland has the makings of a pretty entertaining fight along with Pyfer/Gastelum.

Well that was something.......

A canceled main event minutes before, 2 botched weigh ins on top of that and a lost fight the day before. The remainder wasn't a strong showing from the UFC (2 fights were pretty bad) but I can't say I was letdown, things went as expected.

After the fight review there is a rant defending Women's MMA, not in its entirety as much as rebutting some specific dumb takes. Feel free to skip that if you don't need that.
