Matthew 7:24-29 is the text for this sermon entitled, "Doing Jesus' Teachings."
Remember the old Vacation Bible School (VBS) Song, "The Wise Man Built His House Upon a Rock"? Here are the words to the song:
Verse 1
The wise man built his house upon the rock.
The wise man built his house upon the rock.
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
And the rains came tumbling down.
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
And the wise man’s house stood firm!
Verse 2
The foolish man built his house upon the sand.
The foolish man built his house upon the sand.
The foolish man built his house upon the sand.
And the rains came tumbling down.
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
And the foolish man’s house went splat!
Verse 3
So, build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ!
So, build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ!
So, build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ!
And the blessings will come down.
The blessings come down as the prayers go up.
The blessings come down as the prayers go up.
The blessings come down as the prayers go up.
So, build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ.

This passage is the end of the Sermon on the Mount. Here Jesus declares His authority for these teachings, showing us that His words provide the rock-solid foundation for us to face the storms of life. He also asks his listeners to make a commitment to act on His teachings.
The ideals Jesus has included in the Sermon give us the blueprint to build our lives on the rock-solid foundation of truth so we can withstand all the trials and troubles of life without falling. The alternative is to live on shifting sands that offer no protection from storms and lead to a great fall, crumbling under the pressures of life.
We learn that as this amazing sermon ended, the audience was amazed at the teachings and because of the unique authority with which he delivered the words. They FELT His unique power to speak truth.
