  • Ep.43: The Libertarian Party: Immigration & Free Speech
    2025/04/23

In a recent ‘Philtered’ episode, I interviewed Mark Hornshaw from the The Australian Libertarians on party policies. The last episode for Marking the Role was an excerpt relevant to Education and Family. This episode is an excerpt on Immigration and Free Speech. Leading into the 2025 Federal election, these important issues for teachers and parents were too relevant to let slip.

  • Ep 42: The Libertarian Party: Education & Family
    2025/03/26

The Libertarian Party is a minor party in Australia, yet their policies show a commonsense approach sadly lacking in the majors. School choice for parents and the return of fact-based teaching would be a welcome relief for most Australian families.

  • Ep 41 Mini: Schools, Pride & the end of Sanity
    2024/06/09

Throughout Australia, schools are creating ‘Queer Clubs’ to push LGBTQA ideas. One school in Victoria has a ‘Queer Club’ for 8-12 year olds. While cult-infected State Departments of Education seemingly don’t care what the majority of parents think, the pushback has well and truly begun. Phil talks to Celine Against the Machine and Maya Tesa about eSafety, censorship, and the parents walking away from public education.

  • Ep: 39: Saving Australian Schools
    2024/04/08

As Australia’s education ranking tanks, a change in the school funding system is well overdue. If Australia is ever going to be the smart country, equal per-child funding, together with greater parental choice must be top of mind. A fair and equal funding model, in addition to UK style ‘Free Schools’, would give parents, teachers and students a place where learning matches family values. They would be a tonic for Australia’s disillusioned teachers and angry parents doing battle against the forces of woke mediocrity.

  • Ep 38: The Neuroscience of Learning Part 2
    2024/02/05

Teacher training spends a great deal of time on diversity, inclusion and equity, yet omits probably the most important component of education: The neuroscience of learning.

This episode takes you through the basic science of learning and retention. It looks at a school exercise program called ‘SPARK’ started in 2008 by Dr John Ratey that continues to change the way many schools in the USA operate.

We then talk to Ben Couchman, a fitness and exercise expert as to how to motivate and keep young people active to improve their school results, lift their mood and keep anxiety away.

  • Ep 37: Australia's National Curriculum
    2023/12/04

Australia’s National Curriculum, designed by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA), has been described as “shockingly poor” by one media outlet and “a problem” by education consultants. Yet is it as bad as it seems? We ask three experts on curriculum matters if there’s any hope at all for the document that is supposed to guide teachers and set standards for the next generation of Australians.

  • Ep. 36: The Neuroscience of Learning (part 1)
    2023/11/16

The neuroscience of learning has been ignored by teacher training courses in Australia yet is a lynchpin of effective education. One component is Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) that while basic in definition, is harder for teachers to use in practice. We talk with CLT practitioner Sam Sterrett from Scotch College in Western Australia about what CLT means for the teaching profession.
