  • Ann Wood - Woodlucker
    2022/07/20

(Season One re-share) I am so excited to share this interview with you!  This week I am sharing the conversation I had with artist, Ann Wood of Woodlucker.  Woodlucker is a visual partnership and studio founded by Ann Wood and her husband, Dean Lucker.  Ann spoke to me about her journey and her process and many other things besides and I have to say that despite already admiring Ann’s work I still learned so much more about her from this conversation.  Ann creates the most intricately crafted paper flower sculptures, but I will let her tell you more about that as her love and passion for her subjects emanates from her every word and I couldn’t even begin to do it justice.

You can follow Ann on Instagram -  @Woodlucker

If you could rate and share the podcast it would mean such a lot to me and really help me to spread the word, so we can build a community of creative, kindred spirits just like us.

  • An Interview with Tracey English
    2022/06/13

This episode has been re-released after a bit of a tech-glitch (totally my fault!) and it previously disappearing!  I LOVED this chat with Tracey so much that there was no way it was just vanishing into the podcast ether.

Tracey lives in South West London and her work is an explosion of colour texture and detail and with so much story telling woven into each scene and character that she creates.

It doesn’t surprise me at all that Tracey herself is a natural story teller and so engaging to listen to and chat with.  I recorded this interview with Tracey a couple of months ago when the weather was still a bit grey and dull here in the UK and after our call I felt truly lifted by her description of her work and the places she hopes to travel to.

Tracey really embodies her work, while we were chatting (I record all of my podcasts via zoom), she was sat in the most wonderful room with her colourful, vibrant work around her and pieces of painted paper and brushes all around, I really felt like I was sat with her and sharing in a piece of her world.  I hope you enjoy the conversation and that you can imagine joining us in that space to learn more about Tracey, her journey, her process and her work.

This conversation was so ,much fun and so inspiring.

  • I missed you!
    2022/06/08

I have a confession!  I made a slip-up with my podcast host and all the previous episodes were deleted.  Over the next few weeks I am re-sharing them as well as two more interviews with some incredible artists I had the pleasure of chatting to.  This mini-episode is a little about me and where I plan to take this podcast and why.

I hope 2022 is treating you well.

  • An Interview with Kirsty Elson
    2022/06/08

Kirsty is an artist who creates sculptures made from driftwood and other treasures which she finds on her local beach in Cornwall. I was absolutely delighted when she agreed to be interviewed on the Making Your Way podcast ... In this episode I talk to Kirsty about her process, her journey and what brings her joy, and much more!

When the very first idea for this podcast came to me I wrote a list of dream guests and Kirsty was at the very top, when she said Yes I was absolutely over the moon and it moved me forward from a place of feeling a bit uncertain about whether this was something I really could do, and it gave me the momentum to push forwards.  Not only is her work clever, delightful and multi-layered but I am also obsessed with the very idea of her process.

I love Cornwall, it’s such a magical, special place and the beaches there are undoubtedly some of the best in the world.  My favourite thing to do whenever we visit this beautiful part of the world is to walk on the beaches with my family and whilst they splash around and explore the rock pools, I wander and search for pieces of sea glass.  Kirsty’s process of what starts in the form of a treasure hunt, ie searching for pieces of driftwood and other interesting things that the sea gifts to the beach, combined with creating the unique sculptures that themselves represent the architecture and the atmosphere of Cornwall, is a magical combination.

I also have a fascination for all things miniature and the little sculptures of houses and quaysides that Kirsty makes, as well as her sea creatures, boats and other delights are wonderful.  If you haven’t seen her work, you must go and do some research and I promise you will not be disappointed, in fact, it will probably spark a new obsession!

This conversation was so ,much fun and so inspiring.
