We further discuss the shift from the truth claims perspective of the LDS church having what everyone needs, to a universal vision of the way God works in us and the world. An aim of Latter-day Awakening is supporting others in their journey of awakening to a more expanded perspective, and to exploring ideas or practices that can invigorate our spirituality.

At the core of this discussions lies the belief that there isn’t necessarily one right opinion, belief, or worldview for everyone at once - that our perspectives can shift over time and it’s our job to honor what we feel called to.

Additionally, one’s beliefs don’t have to be a moral judgment of anyone’s soul progress. We hold the belief that everyone is at different parts of a beautiful universal journey that none of us can fully see clearly. But we can tap into the energy of this broad vision - and this is filled with light, purpose, and love.

In this episode and the next, we (Sydney & Josh) explore reasons for truth claims in the LDS church (and other spaces). We discuss the human tendency towards certainty, scarcity, and inflexibility when it comes to truth and belief systems. Having been deeply involved in the LDS church for the majority of our lives to this point, we understand the intensity of this conversation, and respect other perspectives.

We recognize that we all to some degree tend toward meaning-making and viewing our opinions as correct, and venture to create a space where we can discuss our shifts in perspective and support others in the shifts they’re feeling internally called to.

We explore how the truth claims of the LDS Church often complicate and strain relationships, making it difficult to expand spiritually while maintaining connection. While shedding the masks we wear can bring feelings of invalidation, releasing them ultimately opens the door to deeper love, authenticity, and the freedom to step fully into ourselves.
