Journeying #37 with Orla Finn, Personal Trainer & Founder of Award-Winning Mojo Fitness Bootcamp

  • サマリー

  • My guest this week is Orla Finn, a local business owner in our village and very well known to so many locally – she is the founder of Mojo Fitness, an award-winning outdoor Bootcamp which she started 6 years ago. By designing training classes and programmes to accommodate in particular the lives of busy parents, Mojo Fitness has been an absolute lifeline for many here in Donabate.

Often it is difficult for parents with young kids to get out to exercise, socialise, or even engage in an adult conversation all day, and it can be very isolating. Which of course can have a knock-on effect on our mental health and wellbeing. But Orla designs her programmes with that ‘busy mum’ or ‘time-strapped dad’ in mind, to get out and get a really good session in, while also building a community and forging friendships

Orla has designed a realistic training programme for relatively novice runners to train & complete a half-marathon, and with this, she has helped people who never dreamed of running 5km to instead experience the achievement of crossing a finishing line of a half marathon.

    TOPICS DISCUSSED:

    • Pivoting roles from the career we "should" have, to the career we actually love
    • Building a community-driven outdoor fitness group
    • Mini-goals to give clients a training focus
    • Supporting clients to go from zero kms to completing half marathons
    • If you have the want, you can do anything
    • Designed a more realistic marathon training plan for busy parents
    • Training & early motherhood ... Buggy Bootcamp!
    • "Mojo saved my life" - the importance of community, friendship & camaraderie
    • What does a PT (Personal Trainer) look like?
    • Voted 'Best Bootcamp in Ireland' at the Irish Fitness Industry (IFI) Awards 2019
    • Exercise & movement gets us through the mentally & emotionally tough times
    • How to keep young girls in sport?
    • Setting personal goals - next up, 6km sea-swim from Lambay Island to Tower Bay, Portrane to support new local social enterprise, EggHeadz
