  • The Cross Of Our Lord Jesus Christ
    2024/10/28

Ken and Mike downshift and only tackle two verses in this episode. Paul packs some important elements in these verses, and the guys wanted to spend the necessary time to discuss them in detail. What are these items? The cross and the new creation. Mike and Ken discuss each of these and then draw applications for them in our lives. A listener wants to know if the guys have ever bobbed for apples? And what other things people might bob for? What’s a humble brag and where did it come from? Also, the Did You Know segment keeps Ken from commenting. What could it be?

  • Character Sketch Of A Legalist
    2024/10/21

In this next section, Paul wants us to know it’s him writing, so he points out the size of the letters he’s using. He also wants us to know what a legalist looks like, and he’ll give us the clearest picture he has in this letter in verses 12 and 13. Mike and Ken discuss Paul’s large writing. They also discuss the elements Paul uses to describe legalists, uniformity, personal safety, and pride in their identity. A listener asks the guys to help with understanding Isaiah 6:10. When is it appropriate and not appropriate to write in large letters? And what would it look like if a church sought unity through uniformity?

  • Sowing And Reaping
    2024/10/14

Paul’s next section of writing in Galatians is straightforward and covers three distinct areas: the care of those who teach, the principal that what is reaped comes from what one sows, and doing good. Mike and Ken discuss the value of preaching and why to support it; sowing and reaping to the flesh and to the Spirit; and why it is worthwhile to not weary in doing good to everyone. A listener wants Ken and Mike to settle the debate over whether pineapple is a viable topping for pizza. The guys also kick around alternative ways to pay a preacher. And could the guys be opening their own pizzeria?

  • Who’s Responsible for What?
    2024/10/07

Chapter 6 continues Paul’s thought at the end of chapter 5, which was focused on the interactions Christians have between each other. He talks about how to handle someone caught in wrongdoing, bearing each other’s burdens, and bearing our own load. Ken and Mike discuss helping those who stumble, what it means to carry ours and others’ burdens, self awareness, and personal responsibility. A listener asks the guys if they should go on a missions trip with their church. They want to know if this is something the guys have done and would they share their experiences. And what would a detective find in churches if they were allowed free access to snoop around?

  • Living By The Spirit
    2024/09/23

The last 5 verses of chapter 5 describe what it means to live and walk in the Spirit. This is a breath of fresh air following the works of the flesh. Mike and Ken discuss the fruit of the Spirit in contrast to the works of the flesh and that there is no law against them. They also talk about what we are to do with the flesh, how we keep in step with the Spirit, and why they think Paul added the sentence that is in verse 26. A listener wants to know what other types of music, outside of worship music, the guys enjoy. And has a clever type of Bible sent the guys careening down a rabbit hole?

  • The Flesh
    2024/09/16

Following the description of the war between the flesh and the Spirit, Paul transitions to a list of the acts of the flesh. This list isn’t to be kept legalistically, but to understand what kind of life the flesh produces. It’s important to understand the flesh, because it is one of the major enemies of the Christian. Ken and Mike define the flesh along with where it comes from in scripture. They discuss the specific types listed in these verses, and how flesh affects the Non-Christian and the Christian. A listener asks for the guys’ help with what to bring for their church potluck. Have you ever had the awkward moment of a musical interlude in your church service? What’s the longest one you’ve ever heard? The guys come up with options to help pass the time while the soloist plays on.

  • This Is War
    2024/09/09

In 2 short verses, Paul succinctly describes the interplay between the flesh and the Spirit. He follows that up by once again describing the either or relationship between living by the Spirit and living under the law. Follow along with Mike and Ken as they discuss the enemies that affect Christians, what it is to live by the Spirit, the battle between flesh and Spirit, why the flesh requires restraint, and how we are led by the Spirit. A listener wonders if the guys ever desired to compete in the Olympics or watch as spectators. Why would someone create an emoji Bible? The discussion about the Olympics prompts the guys to consider which events would be included in a Ministry Olympics.
