  • How to Solve the Trolley Problem: A Jewish Ethical Perspective
    2025/01/29
In this episode of Dear Rabbi, I tackle the famous philosophical trolley dilemma from a Jewish perspective. I analyze Jewish law and the Talmud and explain why Judaism's approach might surprise those who take a utilitarian view. I explore why sacrificing one life to save many - whether through pulling a lever or pushing someone off a bridge - goes against Jewish ethical teachings. Drawing from the Mishna and Jerusalem Talmud, I share how Judaism values each life equally and absolutely, regardless of the mathematical logic of saving more lives.

  • Parshat Va'era: Rewriting Our Inner Narrative
    2025/01/24
📖 Parshat Va'era This Week: The stories we tell ourselves can be our greatest limitation or our most powerful tool. Like Moses learning that the people's resistance wasn't about him, we're reminded that our assumptions often say more about our inner struggles than external realities. Pause, reflect, and choose compassion—for yourself and others. Shabbat Shalom. 💭

  • How to Understand God's Plan in Times of Suffering
    2025/01/22
In today's episode of Dear Rabbi, I'm answering a profound question about God's role in our suffering, especially during these challenging post-COVID times. I explain why we can't fully grasp God's ways by sharing two powerful stories – one about a hypothetical cousin from the jungle seeing a gym for the first time, and another about my personal experience with my son Ozzy during his medical procedure. Through these examples, I illustrate how our limited perspective, like looking at a painting with our nose against the canvas, prevents us from seeing the complete picture.

As Jews, we believe in reincarnation and that our souls return to fix things unknown to us. While we may not understand everything now, I emphasize that if something doesn't seem good, it's simply because we haven't reached the end of the story yet.

  • Seinfeld's 'The Revenge' - Sweet or Sour: The True Cost of Getting Even
    2025/01/15
Welcome to Yada Yada Yiddish, the podcast where Seinfeld meets Jewish wisdom in unexpected ways.

🎙️ In this compelling episode, we explore Season 2's "The Revenge," where George's failed attempt to return to work and Jerry's missing laundromat money lead them both down paths of vengeance. But what starts as seemingly justified payback reveals deeper truths about human nature and personal growth.

Through the lens of Jewish wisdom and modern psychology, we unpack why revenge often feels sweet but leaves a bitter aftertaste. Discover fascinating research from Harvard's Daniel Gilbert about why revenge never delivers the satisfaction we expect, and learn how Jewish teachings offer a more fulfilling alternative: living well as the best revenge.

Join me as we blend pop culture, psychological research, and timeless Torah wisdom to understand why sometimes the best revenge isn't revenge. This episode speaks to anyone who's ever felt wronged and wondered how to respond.
